Title: Not Alone, Cause You're Here with Me
Pairing: J2
Wordcount: ~7500
Rating/Warnings: R for sexual situations; MPREG
A/N: This is the third installment of my tattooed Jensen verse which originated from a prompt/manip from fatebegins. Originally wanted to get this up a few days ago for hers and alienat's Birthdays last week. Title is from a song in Very Potter Musical (which I finally watched last week).
Summary: Jared has to deal with the stress of letting his family and friends in on the news of his and Jensen's little surprise. Thankfully, he isn't alone.

His arms were splayed out across the desk while his head rested on top of the hard surface. Papers stuck to his face as he all but drooled down onto them, smearing the ink on the notes every so slightly. His neck was bent at an angle; it would surely ache something fierce once he awoke. But for now, he was completely dead to the word…or at least he was until his husband settled a hand at the small of his back.

“Mmm,” Jared groaned as he jerked awake. His neck flared with pain at the movement and the cramped position in which he had slept. A piece of paper stayed connected to his cheek as he tried to lean up. Jensen reached down and pulled it from his skin before gently running a hand through his husband’s sleep mussed hair.

“Hey…I take it you spent the night down here?” Jensen said softly. He moved his hand so that it massaged the back of Jared’s neck. His husband let out a sigh. The muscles were painfully tense underneath his fingers.

“Must have…meant to go up after I finished going over these notes. Guess I fell asleep.”

“Again, I might add,” Jensen went on to say. “It’s not good for you, Jare.” Jensen slid onto the arm of the sturdy desk chair that Jared was using. He moved his hand down from Jared’s neck to his shoulders and then to his now smooth stomach. Jared had lost his normal tone, but he wasn’t really showing much per say.

“I know,” Jared huffed tiredly. “I don’t mean to…I just have all this stuff for school and am behind on my paperwork for Sam and JD needs my abstract for the poster I’m submitting to that conference and-“

“Shh…slow down baby,” Jensen soothed. He rubbed Jared’s stomach slowly. “You need to slow down. You’re exhausted. I know you’re barely eating.”

“I’m trying to eat, but it just comes back up right now. I shouldn’t have to deal with that for much longer. Almost to the second trimester…should start to slow down at least.”

“Yeah, but you still aren’t slowing down. You’re stressing out and it isn’t good, Jay. I’m worried about you. You need to start telling people you’re pregnant so that you can slack off and-“

“Jensen, I can’t slack off too much. All of this stuff is important and I have people depending on me!”

Jensen sighed and pressed his hand a little harder, not painfully hard of course, to Jared’s lower abdomen. “Yeah, and you have the most important person depending on you right in here.” Jensen could see the emotions playing across Jared’s face and hated having to stoop to that level.

Jared nodded and leaned into Jensen’s side a little. “I’m sorry.”

“Don’t be baby.” Jensen kissed him on the cheek and pulled him in tighter. “I’m not mad. Just worried. Don’t want anything to happen to you or my two baby girls.”

“Your one baby girl and undetermined other,” Jared scoffed.

“Hey…Clary is so going to have a baby sister. I can feel it.” He rubbed at Jared’s stomach again.

“Keep dreaming sugar,” Jared teased before turning more serious. “I’m going to talk to JD and Sam today. I have to meet with JD about this conference. I was originally supposed to go with him to it, but I don’t think I can. It’s in Chicago in a few months and not sure I can handle that. Also need to make sure I can get through my coursework. Sam needs to know so I don’t overdo things…she was really good about all that when I was pregnant with Clary. She’ll be fine with it.”

“Then we tell the parents…”

“Then we tell your parents…”

“Jay,” Jensen sighed, “your mom is going to be fine. She doesn’t hate me anymore and she adores Clary. She’ll be fine having another punk princess running around to spoil.”

“Pretty sure she wishes Clary was more princess than punk.”

“Yes, but then she wouldn’t be Clary and your mom loves Clary.”

“That she does,” Jared replied with a smile. “Can’t believe she’ll be three soon.”

“I know it. Doesn’t seem like it was that long ago.”

“Yeah…she’s growing up fast. We’ll blink and she’ll be a teenager.”

“God…don’t remind me,” Jensen groaned. “I don’t want to even think about that.”

“Aww…you are so going to freak when she starts dating,” Jared laughed before coughing a little. He nuzzled and Jensen’s bare shoulder, his pale cheek a stark contrast to Jensen’s inked skin.

Jensen grumbled at that but didn’t comment. Instead, he took another look at Jared’s face nestled against his shoulder. Jared’s face was white as a sheet except for the dark smudges underneath his reddened eyes. “Jay…you sure you’re ok?” Jensen felt Jared nod against him. “Jay?”

“I’m fine, Jen. I’m tired and trying not to throw up this morning.”

“Aww…I’m sorry baby.” Jared’s eyes had closed during the conversation while his throat was working up and down as he swallowed. He exhaled loudly through his nose and burrowed more into Jensen. “You want anything?”

Jared shook his head. “Need to get up.”

“I wish you’d just stay home today. I know you don’t feel good.” Jared huffed a moan. “Ok…you feel like shit. Wish I could take that away from you.”

“Could always carry the kids,” Jared sighed.

“Um…well…yeah…I…”

“Calm down, Jen. It’s ok.”

“I’m sorry.”

“Don’t be. Just help get me moving before Clary sees me like this.”

“Daddy?” a little voice said cautiously from the stairs.

“Too late,” Jensen whispered in Jared’s ear before turning towards his daughter. She was standing on the stairs with her stuffed moose. She peaked out in between the banisters, her hair curling up in various directions. “Hey baby girl…come on in.”

It took Clary a few moments, but she eventually moved from her place on the step and hurried into the room. Her little legs stopped a few feet away from her dads and just looked up at Jared with big eyes. “Daddy sick again?”

Jensen shifted carefully so as not to disturb Jared too much and reached to pick up his daughter. She settled on his lap, still looking up at Jared intently. Jared smoothed a hand over her hair and leaned in for a kiss. “I’m ok, sweetheart.”

They had decided to wait to tell Clary. Their little girl was normally good about keeping things to herself when they told her to, but she was still a child who could blurt things out with the best of them. She’d know soon enough, and hopefully be as excited as they were thinking she would be.

“Daddy sleepy?”

“Daddy’s very sleepy,” Jared said with a smile. “I fell asleep studying down here so I can get through JD’s test.”

“Can I go see JD and Sam soon?”

“You’re going to see Sam tomorrow with your cousin Aidan,” Jensen answered.

“And you can come in to my office with me in a few days to see JD.”

“Really?” Clary asked excitedly, bouncing a little on Jensen’s lap. He quickly settled a hand on her legs so she wouldn’t jostle Jared too much and make his stomach even more upset. “I can go to your off…your off-“

“Office baby girl,” Jensen supplied.

“I can go to your off…office?”

“Sure thing,” Jared said. “But for now, how about you go with your Papa and get something to eat while I go get ready for school. Ok?”

“Ok, Daddy.” Clary scooted over and gave Jared a kiss on the cheek. She then hopped down from the chair and scurried off into the kitchen with Nala dragging that ground as she went.

Jensen huffed out a laugh at it and stood carefully. “Why don’t you move to the couch and I’ll bring you some tea and crackers? Those seemed to do the trick for you last time.”

“Mmm…as awesome as that sounds…I really gotta getting going. I have class in an hour and-“

“And if you don’t relax for a few minutes you’re going to end up sick.”

Jared nodded and then looked up at Jensen with his puppy eyes. “I’m afraid that if I move to the couch I’ll end up throwing up.”

“Then stay here and I’ll bring everything to you. Maybe then you’ll feel better.” Jensen leaned down and followed Clary into the kitchen.

Jared sighed and slumped into the large desk chair. He rested his head on the back of it as his hands settled at his stomach. A small smile graced his lips as he heard both Jensen and Clary singing from inside the kitchen. The music soon lulled him back into a light sleep.

***********

Jared felt someone shaking his shoulder. His head flew up from his desk and his arm jerked out in front of him, knocking over his textbooks and pens. His eyes settled on the very beat up looking boots that belong to the person shaking him awake…his professor…

“Oh God,” Jared groaned. “I’m so sorry JD!” Jared rubbed his eyes to adjust his vision. “I’ve never done this. Oh God…I-“

“Jared, take a breath ok,” JD interrupted. “You’re going to hyperventilate.” JD leaned down and picked up the items that Jared had knocked over. “Come on, let’s go to my office and we’ll discuss this.” A few students from the next class started filtering into the room. Jared nodded and followed JD from the room. The two walked down the hall and into JD’s office. The professor shut the door behind them so that they could talk privately. “Now Jared-“

“I’m so sorry JD. I never do that! I can’t believe I feel asleep in class…”

“I know you don’t. So you want to tell me what’s going on?” JD leaned back in his chair and fixed Jared with a worried look. “I mean, I know I can get pretty boring during lectures but-“

“No! God no! I just…I am so exhausted. I spent half my night studying and then I felt like crap when I woke up this morning because I slept on my desk by accident and-“

“Jared, slow down kiddo. I’m not going to punish you. You’re one of my best students…you know your this stuff as well as I do I’d say. I didn’t ask you in here to have you apologize. I want to know what’s going on with you?”

“Wh-what do you mean?”

“Jared, you’ve been off lately. You’re exhausted…you have been for weeks now. Those bags under your eyes have all but taken up permanent residence at this point. I’ve seen you all but run to the bathroom a couple of times from your office, looking like you were about to hurl. So…what’s going on? Is something wrong?”

“JD…I…”

“I mean, I’m not asking as your professor, Jay. I’m asking as your friend. Sam and I both care about you and want to make sure you’re ok. She said she’s seen you sway some at work, like you were dizzy. We’re both worried, kid.”

Jared ran a hand over his face tiredly. He’d been planning on telling JD and Sam soon anyway, but he hated that he had fallen asleep in class like that. He didn’t like having to come out about his news because of that. But, he knew he couldn’t let JD worry any longer.

“I…I’m not sick; I promise,” Jared started. “Um…I kind of…well…” Jared bit his lip, trying to figure out how to say it. “Y-you remember me telling you how I had to take some antibiotics for my tattoo’s infection?”

“Yeah…you having a bad reaction to that? You took that weeks ago and-“

“I…I didn’t have a bad reaction to it but…but my b-birth c-control kind of did.”

JD’s brow knit in confusion. “I’m no sure I’m following.”

“Um,” Jared looked down at his lap and rubbed at the back of his neck. “Well, antibiotics kind of makes birth control ineffective and I didn’t know this until it was too late.” Jared felt his cheeks redden.

“You’re pregnant?” JD said in awe, making Jared blush all the more. “Wow…that explains a lot.”

“I’m sorry, JD. It…I wasn’t planning on this happening. Jen and I wanted to wait until after I graduated. I know it’s hard to-“

“Congratulations, Jare.” JD got up from his place from behind his desk and walked over to wrap his arms around Jared.

Jared leaned into the touch. “Thank you,” he sighed in relief. “I…I was really worried you’d freak out on me or something. I know it’s not the ideal time and we really weren’t planning on this happening. It just did…”

JD smiled. “Seems to be how these things normally go.”

“Yeah…you’d think I wouldn’t do it twice though.”

JD laughed a little. “You’re doing pretty good for yourself and Clary is a great little kid, Jay. This one won’t be any different. Not saying it will be easy, but you’ll be fine. You and Jen have good heads on your shoulders.”

Jared relaxed in the chair. “Thanks…think I needed to hear that.” He bit his lip. “We…we haven’t told anyone else yet.”

“You better tell Sam soon, kid. If she knows that you told me first…” JD shuddered exaggeratedly. “And…she’s really worried about you, Jay.”

“Plan on telling her today. I just have this test in Dr. Gamble’s class.”

“Sarah’s behavioral health class?”

“Yeah…”

“You’ll be fine. But,” JD continued, “I think that you need to talk to the other professors and let them know what is going on soon. You don’t have to yet. I’m guessing you’re not too far along since you’re not showing?”

“I’m at nine weeks.”

“Good…you feeling ok?”

“Honestly? I’m pretty exhausted and still getting sick more than I’d like. But isn’t much different from when I was pregnant with Clary. Still sucks but I’ll be ok. Should start getting better in the next month or so.”

“Well,” JD said gently, “I can’t tell you that we can all slack off on you or anything. Wish I could. But, I can say that we can work something out if you start to feel worse. I don’t want anything bad to happen to you or the baby. Ok?”

Jared cursed his emotions as he felt tears at the back of his eyes. He was able to stop them from falling and simply smile at JD while he nodded.

“Like I said, we can figure it all out. Are you going to be ok to go do Sarah’s test?”

“Gonna have to be,” Jared sighed. “Honestly, sleeping in your class helped, as much as I hate that I did that on you. And it’s my last thing on campus for the day. I have to go to work at Sam’s but-“

“Where you will tell her what is going on and ask if she will possibly let you out early so you can go home and rest,” JD said sternly.

“But-“

“Jay…”

“Fine,” Jared huffed. He glanced up at the clock on the wall. “I better get going.” He picked up his books. “Oh! I have that abstract you needed from me.” He dug through his papers and handed it over to JD. “But…I’m not sure I can go with you to that conference now or not. Just depends on how well I feel. After I got past the first trimester with Clary I was pretty good. So I might be able to still do it. Just…”

“I’ll keep you signed up with me. I’m listed as an author on the project as well so I can always present it if you end up deciding you don’t feel up to it. Don’t sweat it, Jay.”

“Thank you again. I really appreciate it.”

“Let me know if you need anything else, kid. And talk to Sam.”

With that, Jared sent JD one last thanks and a nod of the head before heading out to his next class for his test. He was still exhausted but the nap in JD’s lecture had helped some. He was going to have to figure this out a little better. He’d done it before when he was pregnant with Clary; he could do it again. He just had to get into the swing of things.

***********

Jared moved around the playroom, tiredly trying to keep up with the hyperactive kids scurrying around. He really wished they’d calm down, but he couldn’t get mad at them. They were toddlers and wanted to burn off their energy. It wasn’t their fault.

Jared slumped against the wall for a moment while the kids continued to play whatever game they had come up with amongst themselves. Jared hadn’t really figured out exactly what they were doing. He was happy they were having fun and had come up with it all on their own. That’s what mattered to him…even if he was getting tired from them.

He startled when Sam sat down next to him against the wall. She rubbed his arm and sent him a worried look. “You look tired, Jay.”

“Sorry, Sam,” he replied sheepishly. “Had a big test today and didn’t sleep much last night.”

“You can take off early if you want. I’ve got Gen coming in…she should be here in a few minutes actually.”

Jared looked up at the clock. “My shift isn’t over til-“

“Yes, but you look dead on your feet. You’re not even standing on your feet at this point kid.”

Jared groaned and nodded. “Um…fine…I’ll head out when Gen arrives.”

“Good…come to my office before you leave though.” With that, she squeezed his shoulder and got off the ground. She walked back to her office, sending Jared one last worry filled glance.

Jared got up from his spot on the floor and attempted to play with the kids for a while longer. He managed to keep up with them a little more, but he knew he couldn’t keep it up for much longer. When Gen came in to work less than an hour later, Jared breathed a huge sigh of relief and let her take over for the rest of playtime.

He took a moment to calm himself before he knocked on Sam’s office door. She yelled for him to come in and he felt the nerves fluttering in his stomach once more. “Hey,” he said shakily as he walked inside.

“Hey yourself. Gen show up?”

“Yeah…she’s with the kids now. So I’m going to head home soon.”

“Good…take a seat Jay.” She paused to make sure he took up a seat. “Now, want to tell me what’s going on? Is something wrong?”

Jared felt a sense of déjà vu come over him; the words were almost exactly the same as her husband’s had been a few hours ago. It made him smile a little. He could do this. Sam wouldn’t get upset.

“Yes and no…”

“Jared?”

“I’m pregnant,” he ended up blurting out. He felt the nerves take over as he realized how he had confessed. A blush crept up on his cheeks.

“You’re pregnant?” Sam asked in shock before a smile started to form on her face. “You’re pregnant?!?”

“Yeah,” Jared laughed, rubbing at the back of his neck.

Sam hopped out of her seat and grabbed onto Jared for a big hug. She tugged up his shirt a little to see his stomach.

“Hey!” he squeaked.

“Not far along yet are you?”

“Nine weeks,” he huffed, pulling his shirt back down. “I take it you’re ok with all this?”

“I’m happy for you, Jay. And you’ll be fine.”

“I can still work and-“

“And I’ll make sure the schedule is good for you.”

“Thank you,” Jared said with a big smile. “I really appreciate it. I promise I won’t be as tired soon.”

“I know it, kid. First few months are hard.”

“Yeah,” he sighed. “Was like this with Clary too. Sucks…”

“You should head home and get some sleep.” Sam ran a hand through his hair, moving it from his face in a motherly gesture. Sam had always been protective and caring towards Jared.

“I think I need to if you don’t care.”

“I don’t,” Sam said sternly. “Maybe you should take tomorrow off too. I know you don’t have class and it looks like you could use a day off.”

“Are you sure? I can-“

“Positive. Now get your ass outta here and get some rest.”

Jared sent her one last grateful smile before heading out to go home. The drive passed quickly as it was still early in the day. The traffic was light thanks to that; it was nice to not be driving in rush hour for once.

The house was quiet when Jared walked through the door. No familiar, loud music greeted him. No squeals of laughter or excited chattering. Jared set his keys down on a table and padded into the kitchen. He found a note attached to the fridge from Jensen.

Jay-
Josh and Ellie have Clary with them and the boys. They all wanted to go to some movie. I still have my meeting this afternoon. Don't worry about dinner. Josh will feed Clary while they are out and I'll grab something for us on my way home. Get some sleep!!
Love,
Jen

Jared let out a loud yawn as he set the note back down. He opened the fridge to get a bottle of water then decided to head upstairs. He hated going up to bed this early, but his back was sore from chasing after the kids. The couch would only make it worse.

He changed into a pair of sweatpants and a threadbare t-shirt before climbing under the covers. He sighed in contentment as his tired body relaxed into the mattress and pillows. He grabbed his cell and set an alarm so he would wake before Jensen returned home. He just needed a little nap before finishing his paperwork and homework for the week...

"Jay? Babe...wake up."

"Mmm," Jared moaned, burrowing into his pillow. He felt a hand card through his hair, prompting him to open his eyes a little. He was met with a pair of green orbs staring into his.

"Hello there Sleeping Beauty," Jensen said with a smile.

"Hey," Jared replied, rubbing his eyes. "What are you doing home already?"

"Already? Babe, it's going on six."

Jared sat up a little more and looked outside where dusk was starting to settle over them. "But...I set an alarm and-"

"And I think you must have slept through it, Jay."

"Shit...I wanted to wake up hours ago so I-"

"No, you needed the sleep. You have tomorrow off from school. So not like you needed to do work."

"Sam told me to take it off too...after I told her about the baby."

"Awesome...we can have a nice relaxing Friday. We'll pick up Clary from Josh then and do a movie day here."

"Mmm, that sounds nice," Jared said around a yawn.

"You still look exhausted, Jay," Jensen commented worriedly.

"I'm ok, Jen." Jared rubbed Jensen's arm. "I was like this with Clary...really tired and sick at first. Will get better soon."

"It better," Jensen pouted before leaning in and giving Jared a kiss. "Brought you food...just chicken and rice. Didn't know how well you'd be able to stomach much else." Jensen gently stood from the bed and grabbed two matching Styrofoam containers. He handed one to Jared and kept the other on his lap. "Dinner in bed sounds nice."

"What did you get?"

"Same as you. Was worried the smell of something else would set you off." Jensen sent him a smile and started in on his food. Jared returned the smile, leaning into Jensen's shoulder as he started eating. When the first bite hit his tongue and his stomach actually growled in hunger for the first time all day, Jared decided Jensen was officially the best husband ever.

*******

Jared stood in front of the mirror, looking at himself nervously. His shirt was off to the side, allowing his slightly rounded stomach to be on full display. His now healed tattoo stood out on his chest as well.

"Hey," Jensen said, coming up behind Jared and wrapping his arms around Jared's waist. His hands came up to rub his husband's belly. "You're getting your bump." Jen nuzzled Jared's shoulder, pressing a kiss to the bare flesh there.

"I noticed," Jared sighed, leaning back into Jensen's chest.

"That's exciting."

Jared turned so that he was facing Jensen. He put his forehead against Jen's. "It would be if I wasn't going to see my mom in an hour."

"Aww Jay..."

"I'm going to have to tell her today."

"I think so babe," Jensen replied sympathetically. "I'll be right there with you. And so will Clary...and you know your mom isn't going to yell with her angel there."

“True.” Jared brought his arms up and returned Jensen’s embrace. Over his husband’s shoulder, he could see their daughter peeking into their room. “Speaking of our little angel…come on in Clary.”

The little girl smiled sheepishly and rushed over to her daddies. She tried to give them both a hug at once, but her arms were too small. She started to pout, but Jensen reached down and pulled her up into his arms so that she could give them each a separate hug around the neck. She then leaned her head against Jensen’s bare chest, lazily tracing her papa’s tattoos.

“What’s this one?” she finally asked. It had become a thing with her, always tracing Jensen’s tattoos and asking what the images were that she didn’t know. She had done the same to Jared’s after it had healed.

Jensen took Clary’s hand in his and kissed it. “That is a hot air balloon.”

“What is that?”

“Well…it’s this giant basket that is connected to a even bigger balloon. The pilot uses special gas to lift it up in the air so that it flies.”

“Like magic?” Clary exclaimed, bouncing in Jensen’s arms.

“Kind of like magic,” Jensen laughed.

“I want one,” Clary went on to say.

“A hot air balloon?” Jensen questioned. “Maybe when-“

“No, silly,” Clary huffed before turning more serious. “I want this.” She rubbed at the tattoo.

“You want a tattoo?” Jensen barked out, trying not to laugh too hard. Jared had his eyebrows raised and was trying not to laugh either.

“Don’t you think you are a little too young baby girl?” Jared said softly.

Clary shook her head, her curls beating frantically against Jensen’s chest. “You said I was a big girl!”

“And you are,” Jared quickly replied. “But you are still growing. You don’t want to get one of these until you’ve stopped growing. If you get one now, it will get all messed up when you get taller sweetie.”

“Oh,” Clary pouted.

“Hey,” Jensen said, bouncing her a little. “I think I know the perfect solution for you.” Clary looked at him with big hopeful eyes as he started off towards the kitchen. Jared followed behind him with a questioning look. Jensen just smiled at him.

Once they were down in the kitchen, Jensen set Clary down in one of the chairs and walked to the cupboard. Jared picked up Clary so he could sit in the chair with her on his lap instead. Jensen grabbed a new box of Clary’s favorite children’s cereal and brought it over to the table, along with their big mixing bowl. He opened up the new box and dumped the contents into the bowl. A little plastic wrapped prize fell out about half way through.

“Ah ha!” Jensen exclaimed, plucking the prize out of the bowl and ripping it open. “Here we are my dear.” He leaned down and kissed Clary on the cheek, causing her to giggle in anticipation. He prepped her arm as if he was actually about to give her a real tattoo, cleaning it and wiping it off. He then fixed the temporary tattoo that had been in the cereal box onto her forearm. It was some type of colorful owl, and Clary squealed excitedly once she saw it on her skin. “There ya go! Now you can be like us for a few days. We can always pick up more for you when you want one.”

“Thank you, Papa!” Clary nearly fell off the chair as she wrapped her arms around Jensen’s neck. Jared managed to grab her in time.

“You’re welcome sweetheart.” Jensen returned the hug. “Now, how about you eat some of this cereal with me and your daddy so we can go to your grandparents’ house?”

Clary nodded vigorously, too pleased over her new little tattoo to care.

The rest of the morning was spent eating the sugary cereal and complimenting Clary on her new “ink”. She ate it up, relishing in the fact she looked like her dads. It made breakfast pass quickly and helped to alleviate some of Jared’s nerves over talking to his parents later. He knew his dad would be excited; Gerry had been teasing them about more grandkids for the past year, just like Jensen’s parents had. The Ackles’ clan had taken the news about the new baby very well. Jeff and Katie had as well. Now Jared just needed to worry about his mom…

“You ready, Jay?” Jensen said, poking his head into the bedroom where Jared was finishing getting dressed.

“Yeah,” Jared sighed, slipping a larger sweater on over his t-shirt. He looked at himself nervously once more in the mirror before turning towards his husband. “C-can you tell that I’m pregnant?”

“No, Jay. You can only really tell when you’re shirtless. I promise, babe.” Jensen grabbed Jared’s hand in his own and squeezed gently. “Come on. Let’s go.”

“Yeah…let’s get this over with.”

The drive to Jared’s parents place was done with Jared sitting quietly in the passenger seat of the car. Jensen sang along with the radio to Clary. Jared’s nerves cranked up notch by notch with every mile they drove. By the time they reached his parents’ home, his hands were shaking and he felt sick to his stomach.

“You’re ok,” Jensen whispered to him, reaching across the seat to take Jared’s hand while he pulled into the driveway.

Gerry came out the door before Jared could respond. He opened the back to grab Clary, who squealed at seeing her grandpa. She wrapped her arms around his neck and her legs around his waist.

“Hey angel,” Gerry said into her curls.

“Grandpa!” She pulled away so he could see her arm. “Look at my tattoo!”

“Wow…very nice sweetheart.” Gerry looked up to Jensen with a smile on his face. “Taking after your papa I see.”

“She wanted to look like us today,” Jensen replied.

“Us?” Gerry said with a hint of another smile, looking at Jared skeptically. “You got yourself one too?”

“Crap…sorry Jay,” Jensen apologized.

“It’s ok.” Jared rubbed his neck. “Yeah…I got one, Dad.”

“Wow…that’s a surprise.”

Jared bit his lip nervously and shifted on his feet. “I-“

“Jared, I don’t care, buddy,” Gerry interrupted. “You’re a grown man and I know you are smart enough to get something that means something to you.”

Jared nodded. “Have a feeling mom won’t feel that way.”

“She’ll get over it. Come on; let’s go inside. Your mom had to run to the store. She’ll be back in a bit.” Gerry ushered them inside. “Your mom started cooking her chili then realized she forgot some of the peppers she likes to add to it.”

The smell of the food hit Jared, causing his stomach to roll viciously. His mouth started to water unpleasantly. He tried to keep it under control, but when he dad removed the lid to stir the chili, the smell was too much. It forced him to dash out of the room and into the nearby bathroom.

His knees hit the tiled floor hard as he curled around the toilet. He’d been doing better! He hadn’t gotten sick for a week now.

“Hey,” Jensen said softly as he knelt down next to Jared on the floor.

“Mmm,” Jared groaned, reaching up to flush the toilet. “Sucks…”

“Yeah, it does, babe. I know…you were doing so much better.” Jensen grabbed a washcloth to wet and wipe around Jared’s face. He then grabbed some water for him to rinse his mouth.

After spitting the water out, Jared pushed himself up shakily to find some mouthwash. “Think…think it is the nerves and the smell of the food. Just hit me hard.”

“It’s ok.” Jensen rubbed Jared’s back while he cleaned his mouth out a little better. “You think you can head back into the living room?”

“Gonna have to. Dad and Clary will be worried if I don’t.” Jared took a deep breath and headed back out of the bathroom, praying his stomach wouldn’t revolt.

“Daddy!” Clary exclaimed worriedly as he came into the room. She ran up to him, ready to jump at him. Jensen intercepted and picked her up so she could check on Jared without jumping on him. “You ok?”

“Yes, baby girl,” Jared promised, kissing her on the forehead. “I’m ok.”

Jensen looked up to see Gerry watching Jared worriedly. “Hey sweetie, how about we go find your copy of Lion King you left here last week?”

“Ok!” Jensen took her hand and guided her off towards one of the other rooms.

“Dad-“

“Sit down, buddy. Are you sure you’re ok? Are you sick? Do you want me to-“

“Dad,” Jared repeated as he sat down on the couch. “I’m ok, I promise.”

“Son, you just don’t throw up for no reason.”

Jared hung his head a little. “I…well I have a reason.”

Gerry’s brow furrowed. “Jared?”

Jared ran his hand over his face. He had hoped to be able to tell both his parents at once, but it didn’t look like that was going to happen. “I’m…Dad I’m pregnant.” Jared looked back down to the floor. “That’s why I got sick. The smell of the chili and my nerves got to me and…”

“You’re pregnant?” Gerry asked. He walked over and sat down next to his son, who still wasn’t looking at him.

“We…we didn’t mean for it to happen. I’m sorry I-“

“Son, are you ok with this? I mean, are you happy over this?”

Jared bit his lip and nodded his head. The baby wasn’t planned, yet again, but that didn’t mean he wasn’t excited.

Gerry reached over and wrapped his son in a hug. “Then you have nothing to be sorry for, kid. Don’t apologize for that. So you didn’t mean for it to happen…big deal. Doesn’t mean you can’t be happy or excited about it.” Gerry squeezed Jared’s shoulder. “I’m pretty damn excited myself.”

Jared laughed nervously. “I figured you would be. Wasn’t nervous about you. It’s mom that will-”

The front door opened in the other room. The sound of the locks clicking into place was followed by an excited yell from Clary. The little girl rushed up to her grandmother.

“Hello sweetie,” Sherry greeted her granddaughter. She grabbed her and pulled her into a hug. She looked up to see Jensen standing in the hallway. “Hi Jensen.”

“Hey Sherry,” Jensen called back. Sherry had become much more accepting of Jensen, but they still had their moments.

“Grandma! Look!” Clary said, holding out her arm once again.

“Oh my!” Sherry said, looking at the fake tattoo and then at Jensen.

“She wanted it this morning,” Jensen replied with a shrug. Jared and Gerry had moved from the couch over to where they were all standing in the hallway. Jensen crossed the space between them and stood at Jared side, sliding his arm around his husband’s waist.

“Uh huh!” Clary nodded vigorously. “Now I look like Daddy and Papa!”

Jared inwardly cursed as his mom paled at her words. “R-really?” she said shakily, her eyes focusing on Jared.

Gerry could see the look as well. “Hey, Clary? Why don’t you come help me finish dinner sweetheart?”

“Ok Grandpa,” Clary replied, allowing him to scoop her out of Sherry’s arms and to be carried into the kitchen.

Sherry walked into the living room, shutting the door behind her and giving the boys another look. “Jared? Is there something you want to tell me?”

Jared gulped and rubbed at the back of his head. “Well…I…”

“Because it sounds like you got yourself a tattoo.” She walked towards them, her high heels clicking against the hard wood floor.

“Well…I do,” Jared answered strongly.

Sherry’s eyes widened in surprise for a moment before they started scanning Jared’s body. When she didn’t see anything, which wasn’t surprising since he was mostly covered up, she started to pull his sweater up to get a look.

“Mom! Stop!” Jared took her hands in his to stop her from pulling his shirt up. He didn’t want her to see his stomach as well. He squeezed them once and then reached up and pulled his sweater down at the collar to reveal his compass tattoo. He heard his mom gasp and saw the shock on her face. He didn’t say anything. He just let her stare at it.

“Wh-when?”

“A few months ago,” Jared replied. “It was my choice. Jensen didn’t even know about it ‘til afterwards.”

“I…I know,” Sherry said softly. “I mean, I knew Jensen wouldn’t make you do something like this, Jared.” Jared nodded, relieved to hear that. “I just…I’m surprised. You…you always hated needles.”

“He does,” Jensen interjected. “According to Misha, Jared had to keep his eyes closed the whole time and listen to his iPod up on maximum volume so that he couldn’t hear the needle buzzing.”

Sherry looked over at Jared once again. “I…it…it suits you.”

“Thank you, Mom.”

“It might…might take me some time to get used to it.” She looked into his eyes. “You’re all grown up though. It’s your choice to have it.”

Jared leaned over and gave her a kiss to her cheek.

“So…is this what you wanted to come tell me today?”

Jensen bit his tongue, trying not to laugh at the stricken expression across Jared’s face. “Um…no,” he answered for his husband. A chuckle escaped. “W-we have other news.”

“Oh? What is it, hun?”

Jensen reached over and squeezed Jared’s shoulder. “You want to tell her or me babe?”

“I…I’ll do it,” Jared sighed. “Um…well mom…we…I mean…” Jared took a breath. “I’m pregnant…”

Sherry looked at the boys in utter shock once more. Her mouth hung agape while she wrung her hands nervously. She didn’t say a word.

“Mom,” Jared started anxiously. “Say something? Please…”

“I…h-how did this happen?”

“Well,” Jensen started, trying not to smirk.

“Jen!” Jared snapped, smacking him on the shoulder.

“Sorry,” Jensen laughed. “Sherry, Jared had a minor infection after he got his tattoo. They gave him antibiotics for it. Neither of us realized that would effect his birth control until it was too late.”

“I see,” Sherry said after a few minutes of silence. “Are…what about grad school?”

“I’ve already talked with JD and a few of the professors. It will be fine. I can still work and do school…I did it with Clary. Everyone already said they’d make sure I still finish school on time. It will be fine. I’m due around May. My professors are going to let me do my summer classes online instead of on campus so that I can be with the baby. I’ll still graduate next year, Mom.”

“That’s good,” Sherry sighed. “It will be hard.”

“We can do it,” Jensen said defiantly.

She rubbed a hand over her face. “I…I hate that you’re going to have to do all this while you’re still in school…but it’s already happened.” She tentatively reached over and took her son’s hand. “I want to be there this time. I don’t want to make you feel like you can’t come to me. I don’t want to miss out again.” Her voice cracked at the end and she had a few tears welling in her eyes.

Jared smiled and pulled her into a hug. “I will. Thank you.” He looked over Sherry’s shoulder at Jensen. His husband sent him a smile before standing up to give them a few minutes alone.

Jared sighed and relaxed against his mom. Things were going to be ok…

*******

That night found Jared once again staring at the mirror. His sweater and jeans had been discarded onto the chair, leaving him in just boxers and his t-shirt. He still couldn’t get over the way his normally defined abs had disappeared, giving way to the slight roundness that was starting to take over. Now that the stress of telling everyone the news was gone, he could actually look at his belly without feeling anxious. He could enjoy it.

“Someone looks happy,” Jensen whispered in his ear, slinking up behind him.

Jared melted back into the touch. “Yeah…I am.”

“Today went well,” Jensen continued.

“It really did. It’s a big relief.” Jared twisted around and kissed Jensen hard on the mouth. “Thank you for going with me,” Jared added once they broke apart from their kiss.

“Of course.” Jensen kissed Jared’s neck. “You’re not alone in this, babe. You never have to be. You’re here with me and that’s how it is going to be.”

“Mmmm…love when you get all mushy.” Jared leaned in again to kiss Jensen, biting along his lower lip.

“Just don’t tell anyone,” Jensen teased. “Don’t want my reputation ruined you know.”

“Of course not.” Jared moved to nuzzle at Jensen’s neck, licking along where the tattoos were. “Wouldn’t want that.” Jared sucked at the skin.

“Someone definitely feels better tonight.”

Jared responded by making his way up Jensen’s jaw line, leaving kissing in his path. Jensen’s hands gripped tighter at Jared’s waist, pulling him close and rubbing at the waistband of Jared’s boxers. Jensen couldn’t help but pushing up against Jared, eliciting sparks between them.

“W-wanna m-move to the b-bed?” Jared stuttered out between breaths.

“Best idea I’ve heard all day,” Jensen said smirking and flushed.

The two moved carefully and quickly over to the bed, landing on top of the sheets in a tangle of limbs, knocking some books off the nightstand. Their hands continued to roam over each other’s bodies while they kissed hungrily. Jensen was about to take off Jared’s boxers when a soft knock at the door echoed through their room.

Jared groaned and gently pushed up on Jensen. “Jen…”

“But…but…”

“But your daughter is at the door.”

“She’ll go back to bed in-“

“Jensen…”

Jensen pouted and moved off of Jared, taking deep breaths to calm back down. Jared took a deep breath as well before standing from the bed. Jensen crawled under the covers while Jared went to the door. He opened it to reveal their daughter standing sleepily in the hallway.

“Hey baby girl,” Jared said softly, picking her up despite the glare Jensen was surely giving him for lifting on things. “What are you doing out of bed?”

“Heard a loud noise. Woke me.”

Jared turned into the room and noticed the books that had crashed to the floor earlier. Jensen must have too, since his face softened and he motioned for them to join him on the bed. Jared laid Clary down in the middle before lying down next to her and Jensen.

“Sorry sweetheart,” Jensen said to his daughter. “I knocked some books off the table.”

Jared had to bite his lip to not laugh at Jensen. Clary didn’t notice; she was just content to snuggle into her dads. She burrowed under the covers and into Jared’s side. Her brow furrowed a little when she felt the slight roundness to his stomach though. “Daddy? Is different.”

This time, Jared did laugh at his girl. “It is,” he said softly, pulling her closer. He then looked over at Jensen. “Think we still have one more person to tell, don’t we?”

Jensen scooted over closer, lifting Clary so that she was on his stomach and leaning against Jared’s side. “Looks like it. Guess we should do that then.”

Jared took Clary’s hand and put it on his lower belly. He started to explain things to her, hoping he was keeping it in terms she could understand. It seemed to be working, as her face lit up at the mention of a baby.

The small family lay there, chatting about things for a little longer. Clary seemed more awake than what she should be for that time of night, but the boys let it go. They were happy she was excited. Everything was as perfect as they could have hoped for. Jared and Jensen relished in it.

Neither realized that it wouldn’t last for much longer…
