Summary: Jensen has it all…great job, lots of money, the love of his life…and NO kids, just the way he wants it. Everything seems perfect, until one night following a big fight Jensen comes home to find Jared has left, turning his world upside down. Four years down the line, he might finally find the answers to all his questions…in the form of two little boys who look a lot like him and Jared…

A soft thud echoed through the bedroom and awoke Jared from his sleep. He shivered slightly and burrowed deeper into the covers. His body unconsciously sought out the warmth of the one that had been next to him all night, only the other side of the bed was cold. Jared cracked open his eyes to see that Jensen was already gone. Then he heard the thud again.

He couldn’t help but fear that maybe Jensen had left. After all, Jared wouldn’t blame him. He knew he’d hurt Jensen, and wanted nothing more for them to get through this. Yet the fear was still there. Jensen was warming up to the boys and the boys to him. He seemed to be enjoying his time with them, regaling Jared in the hospital with the twins’ antics. Jared had always known that Jensen would have made a great dad; he just could never get Jensen to see that himself.

Jared quietly sat up in bed and peered around the room. He could just see the top of Jensen’s mussed spikes poking out from the around the footboard of the bed. Jared furrowed his brow, wondering what Jensen was doing out of bed so early. As much as Jared’s body wanted to just fall back asleep, Jared’s need to make sure that Jensen was staying won out.

Jared climbed out of bed, taking one of the thicker fleece blankets with him. He blinked sleepily at the bright sun coming in through the curtains as he padded softly towards the end of the bed. He managed to not cough too much, but his breathing was still wheezy. “Mornin’,” Jared muttered before taking a seat next to Jensen on the floor. Photo albums were sprawled out around Jensen, who also had one in his lap.

“Shit…sorry! Didn’t mean to wake you,” Jensen said, startled at seeing Jared next to him.

“You’re fine. Need to take antibiotics soon anyway.”

“I’ll go whip up something to eat for you then the boys. You’re not supposed to take those without food.” Jensen started to stand but Jared put his hand on Jensen’s shoulder to stop him. “Jay-“

“Stay…don’t need them for another two hours. I’m fine.” The cough and shiver that wracked his body said otherwise though.

“Should get back in bed,” Jensen replied. He wrapped an arm around Jared and rubbed at his arms, trying to keep the younger man warm.

“I’m good here,” Jared sighed happily as he unconsciously relaxed into Jensen’s side. He hadn’t been this close to Jensen in so long and it felt amazing. “You’re warm.”

Jensen pulled Jared closer towards his side. “Ok…but you’re getting back in bed in a bit. Don’t want you to get sicker.”

Jared nodded against Jensen’s shoulder. He then opened up one of the books and saw the pictures of the twins as babies. “They were so tiny.”

“I noticed,” Jensen said with concern.

“They were premature…it’s common with twins.”

“Did…were they ok?”

“For the most part. Remy had trouble regulating his temperature at first. Dimitri was second born, and definitely the smaller of the two. He had some issues with his lungs.”

“Is that why he has asthma?” Jensen asked.

“Maybe…they’re not sure. Could be that…genetics…anything.”

Jensen nodded. “He really hates his meds.”

“Yeah,” Jared sighed. “He’s better with it than he used to be. One day he may not have to use the breathing treatment and just have to carry around an emergency inhaler.”

“Good.” Jensen continued to flip through the pictures.

“What made you get this out so early?” Jared asked quietly.

“I…I don’t know. Guess…I was just curious…”

“You know, it’s ok to ask me about them more often. To want to see this stuff. It’s natural Jen.”

“But I never wanted…”

“But you have it. And that makes a world of difference.”

“Starting to see that,” Jensen mumbled under his breath. “I still don’t know what I’m doing. I’m a crap -“

“No you’re not. I’ve seen you with them. You’re not a crap dad. I would know…”

“But I don’t know what I’m doing half the time. I made Dimitri cry the other night when I gave him his treatment and-“

“You know how many times I’ve done that? He hates it. Of course he cries. Doesn’t have anything to do with you.”

“Then Remy cried when I didn’t put him to sleep the right way…”

“Again, you’re new, Jen. I don’t get things right the first time. No one does.”

“But…those weren’t the worst of it.”

“Jen I’m sure-“

“I lit up a cigarette the other night after the boys went to bed. I was just…I was so tired and stressed that I needed it. I didn’t think about it bothering Dimi’s asthma…”

“Jen he’s ok.”

“But he wasn’t that night. I ended up having to give him more of his medicine and he didn’t sleep much that night and he-“

“Jensen, he’s ok. I saw him last night…he was fine.”

“I know that but he wasn’t that night and it was because of me.”

“Accidents happen and we move on. You said it yourself, that we needed to start moving on…so I think that we both need to try to remember that.”

Jensen nodded, still feeling guilty though. His phone started ringing, keeping him from continuing to voice that guilt. He grabbed it from the table beside him, not taking his one arm off of Jared. “Hello?” he said into it as he answered.

“About damn time boss!”

“Gen?”

“Yes…your lovely secretary who has been calling you for going on five days only to receive your voice mail every time! You know how worried your family is? How many times they have called me asking why you aren’t picking up your phone and why you are still up in Denver?!?”

Jensen winced. “Um…well…”

“I know you said you found Jared. So are you with him? I mean, if you wanted some alone time with the guy, that’s perfectly fine. I don’t care. Just let me know so I don’t have your family threatening to call in a search party!”

“Yes, I’m with Jared,” Jensen sighed.

“Really? You two are together?”

“We’re…working on things. He’s sitting beside me.”

“He is?!? Put me on speaker!”

“Gen-“

“My life has been hell the past five days because of you…put me on speaker!”

“Thought I was supposed to be the boss,” Jensen grumbled. He put the speaker on. “Jay, you might as well say hi to Gen before she rips me a new one.”

“Hey Gen,” Jared replied a little sheepishly.

“Jared!!”

Jared couldn’t help but smile at her excitement. Although she had always been Jensen’s assistant, she’d been a good friend to Jared throughout his relationship with Jensen.

“God it’s so good to hear your voice! I’ve missed you…”

“Missed you too, Gen,” Jared said around the emotions starting to clog his throat. Leaving had hurt him and he’d known it would hurt Jensen. But he was starting to realize how it had hurt others around them.

“So…how have you been?”

“I’ve…I’ve been ok. Been sick this week though.”

“So that’s why Jensen hasn’t answered his phone! Thank God…was beginning to worry.”

“Yeah…he’s been taking care of me,” Jared continued with a blush, making Jensen smile.

“I’ll probably stay here for another week or two at least, Gen,” Jensen added.

“I assumed…you don’t really have a choice…seeming as how you cut me off before I could warn you the other day.”

“Warn me of what?” Jensen asked with concern.

“Um…have you not looked outside?”

“Not yet.”

“Go look…”

Jensen furrowed his brow but stood up and walked to the window. He couldn’t see anything but a sea of white powder. “Son of a bitch…”

“What?” Jared questioned.

“A lovely blizzard hit last night for you guys. I was trying to tell Jensen the other day that he might want to get a flight to head back beforehand. But I can see now why he was in such a hurry.”

“Well…I guess I will definitely be staying for a while then.” Jensen sent a smile at Jared and pulled him towards his side once more.

“Do you want me to email you any work, boss?”

“Not sure I’d get to it, but you can if you need to.”

“Nothing is urgent…you’ve stayed pretty ahead of things lately.”

“I’ll call you when I can get a flight out.”

“Sure thing! Do you want me to tell your parents about Jared yet?”

Jensen glanced up at Jared, who looked absolutely terrified at the mention of Jensen’s parents.

“Not yet,” Jensen answered. “I’ll talk to them when I get back.”

“Whatever you two want. And Jay?”

“Yeah?”

“Do me a favor? Help keep him in line for me? It’s been a pain in the ass doing it alone.”

Although she was just teasing, Jared could hear the undertones. Genevieve had seen first hand how Jensen’s had handled Jared leaving. “Sure thing sweetie,” Jared managed to finally squeak out.

“Don’t be a stranger.” She then cut off the phone on her end.

Jensen started going through his other voice mails and text messages. Jared continued leaning against Jensen, but he wasn’t paying attention to what the other man was saying. Instead, he was thinking over how Jensen’s parents and siblings would react to everything. He’d always know they would one day need to know, yet he had never really wanted to picture how everyone would react. Now it was all he could think of…

“Jay? Did you hear me? We really should get you back into bed?” Jensen squeezed Jared’s shoulder. “Jare?”

“Huh?” Jared blinked up at Jensen.

“Are you ok? You zoned out on me for a minute there.” Jensen started to check Jared for an increased fever.

“I’m ok,” he replied, batting Jensen’s hand away. “Sorry…was just thinking…”

“About what?”

Jared bit at his lip and rubbed a hand through his messy hair. “You’re parents will hate me.” The words were barely above a whisper, but Jensen could still hear them.

“Jared-“

“They will…especially when they all learn why I left…”

“Jay,” Jensen sighed. “I can’t promise that they won’t be mad. But, I think they’ll be happier about the fact that they have two new grandsons to add to the family. And they have missed you.”

“Jensen-“

“They have,” Jensen emphasized. “Mom always talks about you, even when I didn’t want to listen to it.”

“I’m sorry.”

“Think you need to remember the advice you gave me earlier. It’s the past…”

Jared smiled weakly. “Thanks Jen.”

Jensen gave him a one armed hug. “Come on…get in bed. I’ll make you and the boys some breakfast.”

“Since when can you cook?” Jared countered, a true smile starting to tug at his lips.

“Never said I could…but I can whip up a think of pancakes. Might even add chocolate chips for the boys.”

“They’ll love that.”

“Then get in bed so I can go fix it for them.”

“Fine,” Jared relented. He climbed up from the floor and back into the bed. As much as he wanted to stay awake, his eyes slid shut as soon as his head hit the pillow.

Jensen smiled at the sight and pulled the blankets up around Jared before heading towards the kitchen. He started rummaging around in the cabinets for everything he would need. He pulled it all into his arms, which caused him to drop the frying pan to the floor. It clanged and echoed through the room. He hoped it wouldn’t wake anyone up in the other parts of the house.

He set the flour and baking soda onto the counter top so he could lean down to pick up the pan. When he stood back up, he had two little boys staring sleepily at him.

“Jensen?” Remy mumbled.

“Hey boys,” Jensen replied sheepishly. “Did I wake ya?” They nodded. “I’m sorry.” Jensen set the pan down on the stove and walked towards then. He picked up both at once and carried them into the kitchen. He placed them on an open space on the counter furthest from the stovetop.

“What are you doing?” Dimitri asked as he blinked over at everything.

“Well…you’re daddy is still sleepin’ so I thought I’d make some pancakes.”

Both boys perked up a little at that. “Can we help?” Remy pleaded, pulling out the puppy dog eyes he had obviously inherited from Jared.

“Please?” Dimitri added with the same widened eyes.

Jensen knew that this would likely lead to disaster, but he agreed anyway. The boys’ reaction was worth it, even if Jensen would most likely be cleaning the kitchen for the rest of the day.

The three of them set to work on mixing all the ingredients. At some point, Remy spilled the flour, sending it up in a cloud of white all over Jensen and Dimitri. While Jensen set about cleaning himself off so he could finish, Dimitri knocked the baking soda over onto Remy. They both had splotches of white all over themselves and wanted nothing more than to continue to cover the other in the stuff.

“Ok,” Jensen sighed as he grabbed the ingredients from the boys’ hands. “How about you let me mix this stuff up?”

“But we want to help!” they said in almost perfect unison.

“Um…I know a way you can.” Jensen rifled through the things on the counter. “You guys can figure out how many chocolate chips you want in your pancakes while I fix mine and your daddy’s. Sound good?”

The twins grabbed the bag of chocolate chips while Jensen finished up his and Jared’s batch. He saw them sneak a few of the chips when they thought he wasn’t watching. He had to hide the smile that threatened to overtake his face. He’d done that more times than he could remember during his own childhood after all. Besides, they weren’t going overboard at least, unlike Jensen normally did. Once the boys were occupied with the chocolate, it didn’t take long for breakfast to be made.

During his time rummaging for the pan and ingredients earlier, he had found a tray to take the food in to Jared. He made sure to get Jared’s medicine as well so he could take it after eating. A large class of orange juice completed the meal.

“You guys wanna go ahead and start eating in here while I take Jay his breakfast?”

“Can’t we take it to Daddy with you?” Remy all but whined.

“I don’t know…”

“We won’t bother him!” Dimitri chimed in. “We know Daddy’s still re…rec…”

“Recovering?”

Dimitri nodded. “Daddy’s still recovering. Don’t want him to have to be taken away again.” Dimitri turned his eyes to the floor as he said the last part.

“Dimi,” Jensen started as he knelt down next to his son. “Your daddy isn’t going to be taken away from you. Ok? He just had to get some help from the doctors. But he’s back home and we are going to get him all better. Got it?” Dimitri nodded shyly before Jensen picked him up and tossed him gently up in the air and caught him. It brought on a round of giggles. “So why don’t you two start in on your breakfast in here?”

“But…we wanna eat with Daddy,” Remy sighed.

“We’ll be good,” Dimitri added as he leaned against Jensen’s chest. He turned his little green eyes towards Jensen and stared into his own. The moment nearly made Jensen’s breath catch and his throat clog with emotions.

“O-ok,” he finally replied. “Only if you promise not to be too rough with him. We can do a big breakfast in bed. Just be careful with the syrup. Deal?”

“Yes!”

Jensen set Dimitri back onto the floor and added the rest of the plates to the tray. He cautiously handed the twins their own glasses of juice before they headed into the bedroom. Remy and Dimitri placed their drinks on the nightstand so as not to spill them onto the bed. Jensen set the tray on the other table. With a little help from Jensen, both boys were able to climb onto the bed next to Jared.

“Daddy,” Dimitri called as he gently shook Jared’s shoulder. Remy mimicked the action a moment later.

“Mmm,” Jared groaned as he awoke for the second time that morning. He blinked up at the twins and smiled when his vision finally focused on them. “Hey munchins,” he greeted around a yawn and a stifled cough. He wrapped his arms around his sons and pulled them in for a hug.

“We made breakfast,” Remy stated proudly.

“Oh you did, did you?” Jared ruffled his son’s long hair as he looked up at Jensen for an answer.

“They helped.”

“I can see that.” Jared pulled his hand away from Remy’s hair to find it covered in white powder.

“Yeah…”

Jared laughed and shook his head at his children’s antics. He also felt his heart swell a little at how well Jensen was handling them.

“Anyway…they wanted to have breakfast with you. So I figured breakfast in bed would be good. Besides, isn’t like they’ll have school today.”

The twins looked up at Jensen with wide eyes and growing smiles.

Jensen shook his head. “Snowed too much last night.”

“It snowed?” Remy asked excitedly.

“Can we go outside?” Dimitri questioned next.

They both looked so close to bouncing that Jared wrapped his arms around them to stop them. He wasn’t sure his body would appreciate them bouncing it around on the bed. “Think it is a little too cold right now, buddy. And it’s still snowing too hard. Maybe in a couple days when it calms down.”

“Ok,” they sighed.

“Come on, let’s eat. If you don’t dig into your chocolate chip pancakes I might just have to steal them for-“ Before Jensen even finished, the twins started eating their breakfast. Jensen and Jared joined them, all four sitting on the bed. It wasn’t how Jensen used to describe ideal mornings with Jared, but it was definitely becoming that.

***********

Jared dropped back off to sleep not long after breakfast. Jensen had managed to get the twins cleaned up as well as the kitchen. He knew he’d have to deal with another mess later when he had to cook dinner, but he wasn’t going to worry about it now. Instead, he knew he needed to trek out into the frigid weather to let the dogs out. He wasn’t looking forward to freezing his ass off, but he was looking forward to the opportunity to have a quick smoke.

He had already put the leashes on the dogs and was currently digging out his pack of cigarettes. He had his hands around the pack when Dimitri came up next to him with his trademark dog tucked into his hoodie pocket.

“Whatcha doing, Jen?”

“Um…going to take the dogs out.”

“Cool…can I come?”

“Sorry, kid. But I gotta agree with your daddy, it’s too cold. Still snowing pretty hard too.”

“Please?”

“Sorry.” Jensen ruffled his hair good-naturedly. He pulled on his jacket and stuck his cigarettes into his pocket.

“That’s why I can’t come,” Dimitri sighed.

“What is it, kiddo?”

“You wanna smoke…”

“I do but-“

“And I can’t be ‘round it.”

“Dimi, yes, I do want to have a smoke. But that’s not why you can’t come. I promise…it’s much too cold out. I’ll take ya out in the snow in a couple days. Promise.” Jensen ran his hand over Dimitri’s head and then pulled on a pair of gloves. He left Dimi sitting on the couch so that he could take the dogs out.

It was even colder than he had even imagined outside. He didn’t even enjoy the relief the cigarette brought him. All he could think about was the frigid air seeping through his layers of clothes. The dogs didn’t seem to mind though. It took Jensen forever to get Harley and Sadie to finish up so that he could herd them back inside. What was supposed to be a ten-minute excursion into the snow turned into a forty minute one that left Jensen freezing and covered in snow.

Once the dogs were finally rounded up, Jensen hurried inside. The warm air hit his face, and he sighed at the relief. The dogs didn’t seem to care either way; they just sat at his feet happily. Jensen took off his gloves and scratched them behind their ears before headed back upstairs. He rounded the corner near the apartment but stopped when the door came into view. A little paper sign was attached towards the middle of it. He reached down to pull it off…it was a no smoking sign made with crayons and construction paper. Jensen couldn’t help but smile at it at the childish handwriting and the squiggly circles around it.

“You’ve got a pretty creative kid on your hands,” Richard said from across the hallway.

Jensen turned towards him, holding on tightly to the dogs’ leashes as they fought to get closer to the neighbor. “Dimi do this?”

“Yep,” Richard replied with a smile. “Saw him come out on his own and try to stick it up there. He was pretty damn determined too.”

“Sounds about right,” Jensen laughed. He looked down at the sign again.

“I take it you’re a smoker?”

“On and off since I was in college. More on than off the past years though.”

“Been there,” Richard huffed. “Picked it up real bad when my wife divorced me. But Seb hates the smell of it. Always bitched about it seeping into his pores and screwing with his balance.” Richard waved his hands. “Who knows…but I gave it up pretty quickly once I moved in here with him.”

“Was it hard?” Jensen could remember the couple of times he had given them up. He remembered the cravings and the withdrawal…the hands shaking…the edgy feelings…

“Was a bitch…much like my ex wife that drove me to smoking,” he quipped, prompting Jensen to smile. “But…you learn to get over it and suck it up when it is someone you care about asking you to do it.”

“Thanks,” Jensen said with a nod.

“Any time.” With that, Jared’s neighbor headed back into his apartment and Jensen went to his. He released the dogs as soon as they were inside and went to look for the twins. He found them sitting on the couch, but now Dimitri was slightly hiding behind his brother.

“Dimi?” Jensen called into the room, still holding onto the sign. The little boy burrowed further into the couch cushions, trying to hide himself. “Come over here, Dimi. I need to talk to you.” He still didn’t move. “You’re not in trouble kid. I just want to talk to you.” Dimitri shook his head. “Hey Remy, will you go into your room for a moment to play? I just need to talk to your brother. He’s not in trouble. I promise.”

Remy looked reluctant, but eventually did as Jensen asked, leaving them alone. Jensen took a seat next to his son, who still wouldn’t look up at him. Jensen held out the piece of paper. “You made this?” Dimitri bit his lip and nodded, knowing lying wouldn’t do him much good. “So you don’t like me smoking do ya buddy?”

“No…it’s bad.”

“So I’ve heard,” Jensen sighed. “Makes you sick too doesn’t it?”

“Yeah,” Dimitri said with a slight sniffle.

“Come here.” Jensen pulled his son towards him and hugged him tight. With Dimitri still in his arms he walked over to where he had left his jacket with the cigarettes in his pocket. He picked them up and walked over towards the trashcan. “You want to throw them away for me?”

“Really?” Dimitri perked up.

“You bet. It’s time I quit again.” Jensen leaned over so that his son could deposit them in the trash.

“Thank you, Jen.” Dimitri threw his arms around Jensen’s neck.

“Now…why don’t you go play with your brother while I go check on your Daddy?”

“Ok.” Dimitri squirmed until Jensen set him down. Once on the ground, he hurried off towards his bedroom where Remy already was playing.

Jensen walked off towards Jared’s room and snuck inside. He closed the door behind him and turned towards Jared. The younger man was lying in bed with some pictures sitting on his chest. He had pushed some of the blankets off of his body so that they were mainly just around his legs. “Hey,” Jensen said as he walked towards him.

“Hey,” Jared replied, setting down the picture. He noticed the homemade sign still in Jensen’s hands. “What do you have there?”

“Huh? Oh…nothing.” Jensen smiled. “You’ve got amazing kids.”

Jared returned the smile. “We,” he added softly.

“We,” Jensen mimed. He set the piece of paper off to the side and climbed into bed next to Jared. Once beside the other man, he could see the pictures were of Jared with his older brother Jeff when they were younger. Jensen took one of the pictures into his hands. “Have you heard from him lately?”

“No…not since before we got together,” Jared sighed. “Last time I saw Jeff was when he left mom and dad’s.”

“You were what...twelve…thirteen?”

“Yeah.”

“Your parents try talking to you any?”

“Yeah,” Jared huffed. “I had them on my record as a contact when I was in the hospital with the twins. They were contacted then. They call every once in awhile…normally for money or something. They’ve never even seen the boys.”

“Their loss.” Jensen reached over and put his hand on top of Jared’s where it lay on his stomach. He rubbed at it gently. Jared’s sweatshirt had ridden up a little, revealing the scars Jensen had seen the day before. His eyes lingered a moment on them.

Jared noticed and pushed Jensen’s hand so that it brushed across the marred skin. “You can ask…it won’t bother me.”

Jensen looked into Jared eyes for a moment and continued to run his fingers along the scars. “Wh-what happened? I mean…I don’t…you didn’t…”

“No…I didn’t have them before I left.” Jared twisted slightly so that he was lying on his side. Jensen turned to face him better. “Remember when you asked how my pregnancy was?” Jensen nodded. “I…I left out some details.”

“Like?”

“Wasn’t a very easy pregnancy.”

“You said you were sick a lot.”

“And I was…but there was more than just the morning sickness. I had really bad migraines. Was so exhausted most of the time. I thought it was from stress but it is just how my body handled everything. Alona gave me vitamins and all and they did help. But still wasn’t that easy on me. Didn’t help I was working and trying to go to school still. I knew I wouldn’t be able to do that much after they were born. I had Misha, Sandy, and her mom to help, but I didn’t want to rely on them for everything.”

“That still doesn’t explain the scars,” Jensen said with concern.

“No…um…right around the time I went into labor, there was a problem with mono on campus. I was still trying to finish up classes before the twins arrived and I swear I was being careful. But…my friend Katie didn’t know that she already had it and our drinks got mixed up.”

“So you ended up with mono while pregnant? God…that sucks.”

“You have no idea…and it gets worse. My body was already worn down from carrying the boys and all. It didn’t handle the illness well. Alona almost put me in the hospital a few times, but I managed ok on my own. Sandy stayed with me throughout most of it. When I was just starting to get over, I went into premature labor.”

“So these are from a c-section?”

“No…I delivered the twins on my own. It wasn’t pretty…took forever and I was in so much pain. They gave me medicine and tried to help, but nothing would. Even after I had the boys I felt like shit. My stomach was killing me. They figured out why the next day. One of the complications of mono is that your spleen can be enlarged and rupture under pressure. And with the labor…”

“It was under too much pressure,” Jensen continued. He felt his hands shake a little over Jared’s scars. He knew how serious something like that could be.

“Yeah…they took me in for surgery after it ruptured. I don’t remember much other than I was in pain and couldn’t really see the boys. Wasn’t the best day of my life.”

“I would imagine,” Jensen whispered. “Wait…so…is that why you have been to the hospital so much in the last four years? Because you don’t have a spleen? It has something to do with your immune system right?”

“You remember your anatomy class well. Yeah…when you don’t have one it can lead to an increase risk of infections and shit…which I seem to be a magnet for,” Jared sighed.

“Wow…”

“So yeah…the last four years I’ve been taking care of the twins and trying to avoid visits to the hospital. Doesn’t always work out though…as you’ve noticed.”

Jensen rubbed at Jared’s scars one last time then moved his hand up to run it through Jared’s hair. He leaned over and pressed his lips to Jared’s forehead. “Think you’ve done pretty damn well considering.”

“Considering I haven’t had you by my side,” Jared sighed sadly. “You really don’t know how much I missed you. Especially when the twins were first born and I was so sick. You always knew how to take care of things.”

“I hate that you didn’t let me in…didn’t let me help. But the boys are amazing…just like their daddy.” Jensen leaned over once more. He started to kiss Jared’s forehead again but Jared shift just slightly under him. It prompted him to kiss Jared on the lips instead. It started slow, just the press of lips against lips. It became deeper and more passionate. Jensen had missed kissing Jared, had missed every sensation it brought. Jensen pulled Jared closer towards him and leaned into his body. His hands were at Jared’s shirt hem when the door to the bedroom flew open. The two of them broke apart as the twins rushed in, asking if Jensen was going to start dinner.

Jensen flopped back against the pillow. He was beginning to fully understand that lack of privacy Jared had been talking about…

***********

Remy and Dimitri squealed excitedly as Jensen lobbed a few fluffy snowballs at them. The dogs bit at the flakes that flew in their direction and knocked more snow over towards the boys. Jensen was covered in the stuff as well, but was enjoying every minute of it. By morning, he would be leaving for Texas, and he was dreading leaving the boys.

Jared and Jensen had sat down with the twins and explained that Jensen had to go back to Texas for a little while, but that he would be back for Christmas. He never expected to grow so attached to the twins in such a short time. But the munchins had wormed their way into his heart, as had their dad again.

Jared and Jensen had spent the past week sharing everything from what had happened during their separation to kisses in bed. It hadn’t progressed any further than that though. After learning that Jensen would be leaving for a month, the twins had latched on to both their dads and rarely gave them a minute alone during the day. By night, Jared was too tired, still recovering from his illness. He was doing better though.

Jensen was drawn out of his thoughts when a snowball hit him square in the face. A round of giggles followed as Jensen wiped his face clean. He couldn’t help but smile as he grabbed the boys and landed in a nearby pile of snow. The boys had been playing outside with Jensen and the dogs for nearly an hour now. Jared had stayed inside, not wanting to flare up the lingering cough.

“Alright kids,” Jensen finally said. “We better head in. It’s starting to get colder. Let’s go.”

“Ah, can’t we stay a little longer?” Remy pleaded.

“Sorry buddy. Time to head in.”

“But we wanna stay out here with you!” Dimitri added.

“We’ll play out here again when I get back. I’m sure there will be more snow on the ground them too.”

“Ok,” the boys sighed.

Jensen pulled them both into his arms and whistled for the dogs. They trekked back into the building, dripping melted snow all over the stained carpet. Along the way up the stairs, they bumped into another man. “Oh, sorry!” Jensen apologized, setting the boys down so that he could grab onto the dogs. Sadie and Harley were growling and the twins were holding onto Jensen’s legs, both of which surprised Jensen.

“It’s alright,” the man replied. “I’ve gotten quite used to Remy and Dimitri running into things around here.”

The boys pressed their faces into Jensen’s leg even more.

“I don’t believe we’ve met,” the guy continued. “I’m Stephen Moyer.” He stuck his hand out for Jensen to shake, but Jensen couldn’t take his hands off the dogs. “I’m the landlord.”

“Oh…I’m Jensen Ackles.”

“The Jensen Ackles? Well it’s a pleasure to meet you.”

“You too,” Jensen said quickly as he started shuffling the dogs and the boys up the stairs once more. After they had rounded the corner and Stephen was out of sight he turned towards his sons. “Ok…what was with the shy act back there?”

“Don’t like Mr. Moyer,” Dimitri said simply.

“He’s mean to Daddy,” Remy explained.

Those words set Jensen’s nerves on edge. “What do you mean buddy?” He managed to keep his voice calm.

“He pushed Daddy against a wall once. He’s always leaning in real close. Daddy doesn’t like him either.”

Jensen could put the pieces together himself, but didn’t comment on it to the boys. He would just have to talk with Jared at some point about the guy to see what was going on with him.

“Well…looks like you guys have been having some fun,” Sandy commented as they reached their floor. The boys started going a mile a minute about the snowball fights and the fortresses Jensen had helped them build. Sandy smiled through it all, happy to see Jensen and the boys getting along so well. “That does sound fun,” she finally interrupted. “Why don’t you come with me and tell me more about it, ok?”

They all walked towards Sandy’s apartment where her mom was sitting just inside the opened door. The scent of fresh baked cookies wafted out into the hallway. “Hi Mrs. McCoy!” the boys greeted. Jensen waved at her while keeping the dogs from jumping on her healing frame.

“Hey guys,” she replied.

“So…why don’t you two stay with me and my mom for a while?”

“But…we’re spending the day with Jensen!” Remy replied.

“I know you have been buddy, but I think your daddy would like to have some time with Jensen too.”

“But-“

“If you boys come in here you can get some of these cookies while they are still warm. And I believe I saw a copy of that Cars movie you’ve gone on about lying around here somewhere…”

The twins perked up a little at that, but still seemed reluctant. Sandy promised them it was ok and ushered them in. Jensen was about to follow when turned towards him. “Go back to Jared’s…”

“Um…excuse me?”

“Listen…he’s been over there for the past hour putting together something really nice for just the two of you. Go…have fun. I’ll watch the twins and send them back over in a couple of hours…or the morning. Guess it just depends on how things go, lover boy.” With a wink, Sandy shut the door on Jensen and headed back in to be with the twins. Jensen just stared for a few minutes before going back to Jared’s.

He opened the door and was greeted by the smell Jared’s homemade lasagna. He quickly took off the snow pants, jacket, and sweatshirt so that he was just wearing his jeans and t-shirt. He then walked towards the kitchen. He found Jared fidgeting near the table, making sure all the food was in place.

“Wow,” Jensen muttered.

Jared’s head snapped up at Jensen’s voice. He smiled nervously and motioned Jensen into the room. “I-I thought you deserved something nice after everything. Not sure what I would’ve done the past week and a half without your help.” Jared rubbed the back of his neck. “And I remembered my lasagna was always your favorite.”

“Haven’t ate anybody else’s since you left. Never tasted right.”

Jared blushed as the timer dinged. Jared turned around to get the bread from the oven and shut it all off. He leaned down to pull the food out, giving Jensen a full view of his jean-clad ass. Jensen smirked to himself. It reminded him so much of their nights in the past. Before Jensen realized it, Jared had leaned up and set the bread on the stovetop to cool.

When Jared turned around, Jensen was at his side, looking him up and down. He placed his hand on Jared neck and pulled him in for a kiss. Jared leaned into it, pressing his lips to Jensen’s. His hands came up to rest on Jensen’s hips. Jensen moved his to Jared’s before backing him into the cabinets behind him. Jensen pressed into him, sucking and kissing along his neck. Jared could feel them both wanting more.

“Jen…”

“F-food can wait.”

“Definitely…can…reheat.” Jared bucked up into Jensen. “Bedroom?”

“Mmm,” Jensen moaned. They barely broke apart during the trip to the bedroom. They fumbled and all but fell onto the bed. “Missed you.”

“Everyday.”

Their lips were sealed together as their hands roamed each other’s bodies. It was familiar and new at the same time, sending excitement over their overheated skin. Jensen was the first to start removing clothes. He looked to Jared for permission before stripping Jared of his as well. They were both laid out beside each other, just taking it all in for a moment.

Jensen broke the moment and kissed Jared again. His hand settled against his naked hip. Their erections were touching, sending pleasure through them both.

“N-need more, Jen,” Jared stuttered out.

“Patience,” Jensen smirked. He rubbed up against Jared again, smiling at the way Jared responded. Tired of teasing, he turned to prep Jared. He found what he needed in the nightstand and went to work.

“It…it’s been awhile,” Jared quietly admitted. “Well…haven’t since you…since…”

Jensen cut him off with a kiss. “Love you,” he blurted out.

“Love you too,” Jared replied, feeling the emotions well up in him. But before he could dwell on them, Jensen was pressing into him. He gasped at the sensation and took a moment to adjust.

“Y-you ok?”

“Y-yeah,” Jared answered, shifting slightly. Once he felt more comfortable he urged Jensen on, pushing up into him. It elicited a moan out of Jensen and one from himself. He hadn’t felt this in so long, and his body couldn’t help but respond to Jensen. Before long, he was writhing and moaning like he hadn’t in years, if ever. They tried to go slow, but they couldn’t hold the pace.

“Jen…I…”

“God Jay!” Jensen pushed in hard and stuttered as he climaxed. He grabbed onto Jared, sending him over as well. It took awhile for them to come off the high. When they did, they fell onto the bed beside each other, panting for breath. “Wow,” Jensen finally muttered.

“Took…the words…out of my mouth,” Jared replied. He coughed a little.

“Are you ok?” Jensen turned and pulled Jared back to him to check him over, worried he’d done something to hurt Jared.

“I’m great,” Jared said with a smile. “Better than great.” He took a deep breath and flipped himself up onto Jensen. “So great I think I could go again…” Jared sent Jensen a wicked grin, boiling Jensen’s blood with just a glance.

“I think I might have to take you up on that.” Jensen bucked up into Jared and held onto his hips. He didn’t want this night to end.

***********

“Don’t go!” Remy pleaded as he hugged Jensen’s leg tightly. Dimitri was doing the same on the other side.

The airport was crowded and Jensen’s flight was set to take off soon.

“Come on sweetheart,” Jared gently coaxed. He knelt down to the boys’ level and rubbed their tiny backs. “It is just a month.”

“It will go by so fast,” Jensen added. “Before you know it, it will be time for Santa and I’ll be back in town.”

“Promise?” Dimitri asked softly.

Jensen went down onto his knees and put his hand on Dimitri’s shoulder. “I promise.” He stuck out his pinkie finger and allowed Dimitri to wrap his smaller one around it. Dimitri then launched himself at Jensen; Remy followed a moment later. Jensen hugged them close before handing them over to Jared. Jared pulled the boys into his arms and allowed them to nuzzle into his neck.

“It’s ok,” he coddled. He then turned back to Jensen and locked eyes with him. “It’s just a month.”

“Just a month,” Jensen echoed sadly. He really didn’t want to go back, but his family was worried and his work needed to be taken care of before the holidays. He gave Jared one final kiss before he headed off to the airplane terminal.

“Just a month,” Jared whispered to himself, holding onto those words like a lifeline. “Just a month…”
