Different This Time

Please don’t' let this turn into something it's not
I can only give you everything I've got
I can't be as sorry as you think I should
But I still love you more then anyone else could

The dreams still haunted him at night.

He knew that in moving on with his plans that he would cause himself much pain, much misery. But no more then she had caused him. Riff Raff had contracted a terrible disease by doing what he had done, a disease no doctor could diagnose, no medicine could ever cure. What can fix heartache?

"Nothing," He whispered at night, over and over again to his own tortured self. He had lay in bed at night for months, tossing and turning, shivering though it wasn't cold in the slightest. It wouldn't have been so bad, he told himself, if she hadn't have told him what he had feared all along.

She hadn't done a thing.

It certainly did seem like she had though. It did seem that she was gone more then before. Or maybe it was him that was gone. It seemed that she was spending more time with DeLordy, but maybe that's because the man made a show of it when she so much as glanced in his direction.

The one woman who loved him in spite of everything he'd done, everything he'd gone through, had fallen to death by his own hand. By his own rage.
By his own confusion.

All that I keep thinking throughout this whole flight
Is it could take my whole damn life to make this right
This splintered mast I'm holding on won't save me long
Because I know quite well that what I did was wrong

It had been dark that night, rainy and close to her birthday. Three days, seventeen hours and twenty-six minutes away from her birthday. He could still smell her lily-rose perfume. Of course, it had soaked itself into their sheets, along with drops of her blood.

Riff Raff had been contemplating the action for weeks; it would be simple, easy. And once it was done there was no way of saving her. This was forever. The red head had been sitting at her vanity, clasping a necklace around her neck and humming a song. Humming their song.

He wondered why she could even think of it, even think of humming that song in his presence. After what she had done. Or hadn't done.

By the time he worked up the courage to approach her he was so convinced of her crime that nothing could've stopped him. Not even the tiny smile that crossed her face as she lifted her head up to look at him in the mirror.

The last girl and the last reason to make this last for as long as I could
First kiss in the first time that I felt connected to anything
The weight of water, the way you taught me to look past everything I had ever learned
The final word in the final seconds you ever learned to me was love

He had been gentle. Oh so gentle, so as not to have any suspicion arise in that elegantly brilliant head of hers. He took her hand and led her away from the vanity, grasping her small hand in his and taking her to the balcony, where she could see the ocean and the triplet moons of the planet.

She wandered to the railing and looked over the edge into the sea. A breeze shifted her hair and gown, giving her the look of an angel in black. Fallen angel.

But she wasn't fallen. He knew that now, she had still been his and only his, why he hadn't trusted her word before that night he would never know. He would never have the chance to know.

Riff Raff moved behind her, placing his hands on her waist as she lay her head back between his shoulder and neck. He gazed down at her closed eyelids and kissed her cheek. Now or never.

We have got through so much worse then this before
What's so different this time that you can't ignore
You say it is much more then just my last mistake
And we should spend some time apart for both our sakes

Reaching into his coat pocket, her eyes still closed, her body perfectly lit by moonlight, he extracted a switchblade from within. She shifted, just enough to still his body for a moment, a sigh emanated from between her blood red lips. He frowned.

It seemed, after that, that his next action was forgotten immediately. He must have drawn the blade across her neck gently though, just enough to break the skin. Just enough to kill.

Her eyes fluttered open, for some reason, she didn't seem scared. She didn't even seem to care that the man she loved had taken the breath from her lungs forever. Her hand rose carefully to wipe a single drop of blood from her lips, it was flowing from the wound slowly. Forming an intricate pattern down to the line of her gown.

"I thought you knew?"

"Knew what?"

"I love you."

Those words had been her last.

The last girl and the last reason to make this last for as long as I could
First kiss in the first time that I felt connected to anything
The weight of water, the way you taught me to look past everything I had ever learned
The final word in the final sentence you ever learned to me was love

He had cried then. Up until that very moment, he had been convinced that his act of jealousy had been justified. But now, now that she was as innocent as she had been before. He didn't know how to hold up.

Lifting her lifeless body lovingly into his arms he carried her into their room, and around their bed. Her blood making tiny spots on the sheets and floors as he passed. Down the stairs of their home and out to the sea.

The sea she loved.

The sea he could love no longer.

He waded into the water until it was up to his knees. Her blood was still flowing, slower now and dripping into the water like red rain. Like his hatred for himself. Riff Raff lowered her lifeless body into the water and watched the tide carry her away from him.

That was it. It was over.

The last girl and the last reason to make this last for as long as I could
First kiss in the first time that I felt connected to anything
The weight of water, the way you taught me to look past everything I had ever learned
The final word in the final sentence you ever learned to me was love

Now he lay in that same bed, with those same blood stained sheets. No one lay next to him. He had never trusted anyone in his life but her. And ultimately she couldn't even gain his trust.

But then he could never gain hers either. It took him a while to realize that she knew what his plans were. But she hadn't run or confronted him.

She loved him so much that she knew to say he was wrong would only break him further. He had taken everything from himself, and more from her.

And I don't know where to look
My words just break and melt
Please just save me from this darkness
Please just save me from this darkness
And I don’t' know where to look
My words just break and melt
Please just save me from this darkness
Please just save me from this darkness
