Opinions!

I would like everyone's opinion.

In my opinion, movies that having a confusing or difficult-to-understand storyline are not THAT good.

Movies like that can be good but bad at the same time because of the storyline. But some people may like that kind of stuff.

What do you guys think?

I think one person's confusion is another's clarity. Without a specific example, it's hard to offer much more than that.

I think that one can't make valid generalizations like that.

If the plot is really difficult to understand, I wouldn't automatically say it's a bad film, but maybe it could have been done better. There are definitely exceptions, though.

It's Bill Hader from the SNL episode a couple of weeks ago featuring Shia LaBeouf. (Which can be found here.

I think complicated movies are usually more worthwhile and stand up to repeated viewings. Of course, a movie has to be good enough that you're actually interested in investigating exactly what the hell is going on.

I think it's really a matter of taste. Some people are really into movies that aren't so much about clarity of plot, but more about quality of images. Some people prefer straight, simple storylines they can follow from beginning to end.

I'd break it down like this... From an artistic standpoint, film is about images and the impressions they leave. People watch certain visual-centric movies and consider them an artform. From a commercial standpoint, film is about enjoyable and entertaining stories. People go to the theatre expecting to have a good story told to them.

The best films fit both of these categories, in my opinion.

I really like the way you put that. Thank you. Now I don't have to find a way to articulate that myself.
