Love in the Time of Cholera (2007)

Why? Why did anyone attempt to make this film? I'm watching it right now (well, it just ended), and all I can say is that it fails on so many levels. The book is one of my top five ever, and Gabriel Garcia Marquez's prose is such that it would be impossible to make a film that conveys the romanticism of his imagery. On film the dialogue is not romantic, it's really cheesy, and the story is too choppy. Instead of getting the romantic vibe from Florentino waiting 50 years for Fermina, it just gives off a creepy vibe. I am not feeling the chemistry between Javier Bardem and this lady who plays Fermina. No, this film just doesn't work for me.

F-

It should have been on the Hallmark channel instead
