So--
My friends and I have noticed a trend in horror movies recently and I was wondering if any of you have noticed the same trend.
This trend exists within vampire/zombie movies. My friends and I have started to call the "new" zombies/vampires Millennial Zombies and Vampires, seeing as the trend seemed to start after 2000.
If you remember old zombies (Original Romero flicks, etc.):
They were slow.
They were stupid.
They grunted a lot.
They are weak.
If you remember old vampires (Original Dracula (and most remakes), Interview with the Vampire, etc.):
They were eloquent.
They were dignified.
They moved with grace and purpose.
New Millennial zombies (Remakes of Romero films esp. Day of the Dead (2008) , 28 Days Later, Stephen King's The Cell, etc.)
They are smart.
They're f***ing fast!
They're strong.
They still, um... grunt a lot.
New Millennial vampires (Underworld, I am Legend, 30 Days of Night):
They are stupid.
They're f***ing fast!
They're messy and sloppy, no longer dignified. Kinda like a ravenous wolf.
They tend to kill without purpose.
Has anyone else noticed this trend? Is there any reason that ya'll can see for this move? Let me know whatcha think!
