I'm Katara, of the Southern Water Tribe. Lunamon explained the basics to me (eventually), so I think I understand things.

But, I don't even know where to begin. I don't suppose these Demon Kings came with any instructions on how to beat them.

Yes, I do. He was a good friend of mine, and he also helped me advance in the art of swordsmanship a great deal.

It's nice to meet you. Wait, when exsactly did you meet Sokka?

about...7...8 months ago now? He...helped me out of a pretty tight spot. He got pulled back to his verse a few weeks back, along with Azula and Zuko. It does seem that your brother is here again, but from a different timeline than the previous one I encountered.

... Run that by me again. I know where my brother was seven or eight months ago, and it wasn't here. And what's a timeline?

Timelines are different versions of the same universe, and with each and every single decision that is made a new timeline is created. Some move in sync, but several move through time at different paces. The Sokka I knew was in a timeline faster than yours by about 2 to 3 years.

Does that explain why Sokka doesn't know we won the war.

Yes, it would.

Okay, what's the void, and how concerned should I be that my brother... or a version of my brother... was involved with it?

...No...no it was...just an expression. He was whipped, hard, like...well, him and Azula were together and she basically had him wrapped around her finger. He did too, but it's always more fun to call the guy out on it.

And the void is the space between dimensions and timelines. There's no form of space or time there. It's...hard to explain. But technically all involved with it. You had to pass through the void to make it here.
