Ric is mentally cursing himself for asking such a stupid question but he hadn't got a clue what else to say or do.
Even though Ric was desperately trying to remember something from the previous night there was nothing coherent, he could remember lots of flashing lights, foul tasting drinks and laughter but nothing solid. Shaking his head Ric watched as Jo slid out of the bed, wrapped in only a sheet. For a moment he felt his body stir in response, unable to stop himself from stepping closer but before he did anything more foolish Ric stopped himself.
"I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say there is a pretty good chance that we are married." Ric waggles his ring clad hand at Jo, gaze not quite meeting hers as he looks around the room. For the first time he notices an empty bottle of champagne on the desk where the tv is sat and propped up against it is a sealed envelope and a dvd, both addressed to Mr and Mrs J. E. Richter.
How the hell is Ric meant to tell his Mama Vivi about this?! She is going to skin him alive and that's only if Jo doesn't do it first!
Jo takes a few deep breaths, running a shaky hand through her hair. Ghosts, vampires, werewolves. Fuck, even Lucifer never had Jo as nervous and scared as she was right now. Oh god, if her mom was alive... this was the only time ever Jo was thankful her mother wasn't around to see or know about this.
"I'm also pretty sure to get it annulled we have to have not had sex yet. And I'm naked beneath this sheet, so I'm guessing we already consummated this marriage."
Jo had seen Ric's gaze go to the sealed envelope and DVD. So, she hesitantly moves across the room, past Ric and picks up the envelope, her fingers going over the name. The DVD she so didn't want to look at right now. "Huh. So, my name is now. Joanna Beth Richter. At least it flows easily off the tongue." There's a pause because was she seriously thinking of at least trying this whole marriage thing out? Nah, she must be going crazy. She lets her gaze go over to Ric. "Wanna' tell me what the J. E. means?"
"Joanna Beth." Ric says the name like he is testing out the way it sounds for the first time. Which he is actually. Huh. Joanna Beth Richter doesn't sound so bad after all, though not that it matters because when they get divorced she'll go back to... to... uhhh yeah. Anyway.
Watching Jo, Ric can't help but wonder if she wore a dress of white last night because seeing her parade around in that sheet, makeshift train following her around she looks... stunning. "Julio Esteban. It's my real name actually, Julio is my first name. Esteban Richter is my surname but most people either know me as Ric, Rictor or Julio. Umm... hi."
They shouldn't be doing this. Getting to know these little important details after they have gotten married but there's no turning back time. No changing the outcome. "What's the letter say?"
Ric crosses the room to grab his boxers which are dumped over by the main door to the hotel room. He wriggles them on under the robe and leaves it untied, seeming to be unphased at his distinct lack of clothing for now.
Jo almost cringed when she heard her full name come from Ric. She hated her name. Really, really hated it. "Yeah, but just keep it Jo Richter, I guess. I always hated my named. Sounds like I have an outhouse for a bathroom. Though, I'm sure soon enough it will be Jo Harvelle again." Maybe.
She chuckles softly at hearing his name. Is it weird his name actually made her shift where she stood? She maybe, quite possibly had a thing for Mexicans. Which would be why she found Ric so appealing. One of the reasons anyway. "Julio Esteban, hm? I like it. I might just stop calling you Ric now." Jo even gave him a little smirk that was almost shielded by the loose strands of blonde hair that fell.
Pushing back those strands, Jo watched Ric slip his boxers on. Her eyes going over every inch of bare skin that wasn't concealed by the robe anymore. At least, she could say she was married to a gorgeous man. Amazingly gorgeous. "Hm? Oh the letter. Right." Clearing her throat and looking back to the letter, Jo opens it as her eyes skim over it. "It basically says congratulations and that the DVD is of our um.. wedding night."
Harvelle. At least he knew her maiden name now when it came to going to court to sign the paperwork to end their marriage. At least now when the judge asked why he didn't have to simply say that he didn't know Jo at all, they could blame it on something or other. Ric pushed that thought aside for the moment, ignoring the sharp twist in his chest as he forced a smile.
"You can call me Julio. I'd li... that's cool." He doesn't want to sound dismissive about it all but Ric is trying not to get overly attached to the idea of being Mr and Mrs. He crosses over to grab the DVD, sticking it into the tray and moving back to sit on the end of the rather rumpled bed. "If you'd rather not see if you're more than welcome to go to the bathroom. Scouts honour I won't watch anything beyond the ceremony."
Okay. So he was only a scout for six months before he was kicked out for starting a fire. In another members tent. With a lighter he shouldn't have had, but that isn't the point. Julio just wants to know what kind of ceremony they had because obviously the judge is going to ask. I mean Ric isn't doing this because he is curious or anything.
Oddly, Jo had that same sharp twist in her chest at the thought of ending the marriage. Though if asked, she couldn't come up with a single reason why it actually hurt to think about. She liked Ric, sure. A lot even, but.. it was all just very confusing.
"No. No, that's alright. I'll watch it with you, Julio." She chuckles and makes her way over to him, sitting close beside him. Hey, she was married to him still for the moment. She could sit closely beside him. Jo hoped she wasn't making him uncomfortable.
And Jo will admit it. "I wanna' see it. Kinda' curious as to what you and I came up with. Also, wanna' see if you did anything embarrassing." She flashes a teasing smile his way.
Twirling the remote control is his hands Ric waits for Jo to settle, reaching out to adjust the sheet across her legs and then realising that was probably a little too familiar. He offers a small smile before pressing the play button and trying to hide the subtle glances sideways he gives Jo.
Ric wants to tell her that even wrapped in just a sheet Jo looks delicious and that despite what she thinks he likes her name.
The dvd opens with it's usual tacky music and Las Vegas style wedding chapel intro video. It then fades into the church scene where Julio can be seen stood at the altar, dressed in a dark charcoal grey suit. There is thankfully no Elvis Minister, no garish pink car or anything that bad but the moment Jo steps into view on the screen Ric can't help but let his jaw drop open.
Jo eyes glance down at Ric's hand that adjusts the sheet, a small smile creeping on her lips. And she notices his 'subtle' glances. She was a hunter after all, it was part of her job to notice subtle things. Though, she liked the glances.
Jo couldn't seem to stop her left hand from reaching over, grabbing hold of Ric's free hand and giving a gentle squeeze as the DVD started.
Seeing Ric in a suit made that small smile from before become bright. He looked beyond handsome and she was about to tell him so until she saw herself walk in, an actual fancy white wedding dress, a train even. And when did she curl her hair? She had to admit to herself she did look beautiful and that even though this marriage might not last -because truthfully right now she didn't know if she wanted it to end, though that would be kept to herself- they were a gorgeous couple.
Jo gives another squeeze to Ric's hand before reaching over with her free hand to close his mouth, chuckling quietly. Looking back to the DVD, Jo quirks a brow when she sees herself crying and tell Ric she loved him. She really didn't sound too drunk, but to be crying she had to have been drunk, but.. no maybe not because right now she could feel herself tearing up as she watched their ceremony.
Ric didn't release Jo's hand, fingers entwining with hers but not looking at her as he did so. I mean there was no harm in wanting to touch Jo right? I mean they were married and the ceremony had been consumated so technically Julio had a right to touch his wife.
His jaw shut with a soft sigh as Ric watched the pair of them follow the prompts of the minister, both gazing at each other lovingly and declaring their feelings. It was a little surreal to watch this whole event without any recollection of the evening. The thing was Ric could tell he wasn't drunk, the words weren't slurred and he was steady on his feet.
It was only then that Ric noticed then that Jo was welling up and he laughed softly, reaching over to wipe a thumb under her eyes. He spoke in a whisper, as if worried he'd interrupt the scene on the television screen. "You looked stunning... I wish I could remember but here's hoping we got photos after right?"
Jo felt in awe watching the DVD. How in love they seemed, how happy. She even felt as if some of those feelings were flooding back, what with Ric holding her hand and wiping her tears. All something someone who cared about you would do. And she knew she cared for Ric. Deeply.
"Yeah, I hope so." After watching the end of the ceremony and them walking from the Vegas chapel and getting into a limo. Which was interesting as well, Jo looked to Ric, having a still bright, radiant smile. It was obvious she felt something for him from the look in her brown eyes. "At least we can say we had a beautiful ceremony. Vegas or not."
It was hard to even consider that this marriage was a mistake, something that neither of them had meant when it was clear from the DVD that apparently there had been something between them. Heck. Even now Ric couldn't quite ignore the heavy thud of his heart in his chest as he met Jo's smile with one as bright as his own.
"Well... I mean... maybe... there's no rush to get a divorce is there? We could always just take a honeymoon and... I dunno. Enjoy a break? This doesn't change much between us. Only a surname... kinda." Ric tails off, wondering if he has said too much too soon. Technically though there were no protocols for this kind of situation. Nothing that friends or others could give guidance with so Ric just had to go with his gut feeling.
Julio's dark brown gaze met Jo's and he shrugged just a little, feeling a bit like an idiot. "Unless you'd rather we just find the first judge who'll divorce us?"
Jo's heart quite possibly sank into her stomach when Ric brought up that they could find a judge quickly. "I mean, I don't mind waiting. There's no rush for me. Plus, a break sounds kinda' great. Especially with.. you." There's a slight pause as she hesitantly stands, moving to stand in front of Ric. "And Julio, this kinda' changes a lot between us. I mean, I just found out your real name. And you just found out mine. That's all we know about each other."
She sighs, running a hand through her hair before looking down to stare at the ring. If Ric picked it out, she was thankful. She wasn't a diamond or stones kind of girl. "I'm almost tempted to act childish and say lets play twenty questions because being your wife.. I kinda' feel like I should know more than your name."
"A break together sounds good," Ric offered a soft smile, not pushing the fact that they were basically agreeing to stay married despite not knowing each other. But Jo was right, they really didn't know anything about each other and things had changed. Drastically. "At least we know that about each other right?"
Ric reaches out to tug Jo to stand closer between his legs, hands resting on her hips. The rings that they chose - well he assumes they chose them but he can't quite remember - are either white gold or something like that with a thin band of gold around the edges. Simple, understated but just perfect. Ric can't help but admire how the ring looks good on Jo's finger. "Ask me anything you want. Honestly Jo. Anything."
Jo takes her lower lip between her teeth, staring at Ric as she tries to go through the many questions she has.
"Um.. when you told me about your job, you just kinda' said you did this and that. Do you actually have a job title or are you some kinda' Mr. I-Do-All-Kinds-of-Things?" She pauses to add something. "Also, any questions you have, feel free to ask." There were a lot of things she kept secret. Hell, if that ghost hadn't tried to attack Ric, she never would've told him about her being a hunter.
"I wasn't fully honest with you Jo. I uhhh... actually own a business... back in Mexico but I decided to take some time off, do a bit of sightseeing and get away from it all. It was my fathers and I inherited the company when I was just a kid after he died."
Ric hopes that Jo isn't about to get too angry with him about lying about his job, he's used to keeping people at a distance so telling them outright he owns a business and has a bit of money tends to attract the wrong kind of people. Though really there was no excuse to lie to Jo. "So you got any family?"
"Huh. Mexico? Never been there." Jo had no reason to be upset with Ric because if possible, she would've kept her side job a secret. Him asking about her family though, she takes a deep breath, fidgeting with her wedding ring.
"No, I don't. Both parents are dead. If I have any aunts or uncles, I don't know. Only people in my life are Bobby, Sam, Dean and Cas. .. And you now."
"How about your family? Do I have a mother-in-law?" She chuckles quietly, now sitting on one of Ric's legs.
