MAKE A CHANGE

If any of you are interested in supporting a good cause,
here is a list of my "favourite ones" and what they stand for.

I think it's important that we try to make a difference, as much as we can.
Little money donations make big differences, special gifts, like food or shelter can
be donated on different sites, and often, a simple signature on a list can help make a difference.

Amnesty International
http://www.amnesty.org/

Amnesty International is a worldwide movement of people who campaign for internationally recognized human rights to be respected and protected for everyone.
We believe human rights abuses anywhere are the concern of people everywhere. So, outraged by human rights abuses but inspired by hope for a better world, we work to improve people’s lives through campaigning and international solidarity.
Our mission is to conduct research and generate action to prevent and end grave abuses of human rights and to demand justice for those whose rights have been violated.
Our members and supporters exert influence on governments, political bodies, companies and intergovernmental groups.

Activists take up human rights issues by mobilizing public pressure through mass demonstrations, vigils and direct lobbying as well as online and offline campaigning.

Circuses
http://www.circuses.com/

For animals in circuses, there is no such thing as “positive reinforcement”-only varying degrees of punishment and deprivation. Animals do not voluntarily ride bicycles, stand on their heads, or jump through rings of fire. They don’t perform these and other difficult tricks because they want to; they perform because they’re afraid not to.

Circuses easily get away with routine abuse because no government agency monitors training sessions. Trainers use bullhooks, whips, sticks, electric prods, and other tools that intentionally cause pain and injury in order to force animals to perform.

Please say "no", because animals can't.

1. Join our letter-writing campaign to end the use of animals in circuses by responding to circus-related Action Alerts.

2. If you learn that the circus is coming to your town, be on site when it arrives and departs and bring a camera to document potential problems.

3. Follow our " Steps to Take When the Circus Comes to Town."

4. Visit PETALiterature.com for posters, leaflets, and stickers. If you need some help organizing, contact PETA's Campaign Department.

5. Sponsor an ad, billboard, or radio or TV Public Service Announcement (PSA) in your local newspaper. Click here for a few of the ads currently available from PETA.

6. Start a campaign to end animal acts in your community. Click here for a list of local bans on animal acts from across the United States. Obtain a free “ Circus Ordinance Pack” from PETA.

International Animal Rescue

When he's only a few weeks old, a bear cub is snatched from the wild by poachers. His mother will be shot dead if she tries to protect him. He will be stuffed into a sack and taken away.
If he doesn't die of shock or starvation, he will be sold into slavery at a market.

As part of his 'training', the young cub's canine teeth are knocked out and his claws pulled out. The bear has a red hot poker forced through his nose. A coarse rope is pulled through the open wound. This will be tugged, to make the bear 'dance'.
But the bear isn't dancing, he's just trying to escape from the pain.

The bear will spend his life at the end of a rope, on hot dusty streets, beaten and starved. Many go blind from malnutrition but are still forced to 'dance'. The only escape is an early death, from ill-treatment or disease.

Unfortunately, some of the dogs that come into the League's care suffer from injuries or chronic illnesses, while others have been badly abused and neglected. As a result, they need specialized medical treatment, behavioral training and extra love and nurturing before they can find their own permanent homes. These dogs would likely be considered lost causes at other shelters and destroyed as a result. Here at the League, we allow all of our pets as much time as they need to find a special owner who can care for them, and once they are placed in their forever home, we continue to provide all the support and medical care they need to allow them to live as happily and comfortably as possible.

Stop EU Chemical Tests

Despite a commitment to reduce the use of animals in European laboratories by 50 per cent by the year 2000, a new European Union (EU) chemicals policy could kill millions of animals in horrific poisoning tests!

Look. We need to stop damaging our only life support system. A system on which, factually, we all depend (whether you recognize it or not).

We need to share our world with all the other species that live on it. Respectfully. Harmoniously.

And we must stop being the cause of their disappearance. Their extinction.

We must also learn to live with what natural resources are available to us.

It's not hard. It's not rocket science. It just means that in living, we must stop polluting. And poisoning. And being so outrageously wasteful.
