(OOC) (Interaction) Welcome to the Neighborhood....

Aug 16, 2009 08:19

This is a combined suggestion post and list of details for The Finley.

Neighborhood: The Fin is located in what was once a classy theatrical district in downtown Dearborn, Michigan, but is currently more of a blue collar neighborhood with a funky bohemian atmosphere. It towers over the buildings surrounding it and is in fact the tallest structure in the ten block radius.

Surrounding Area: The Fin is surrounded by a surprisingly vibrant dining and shopping district, bookended on each end of the block by a church and a theater.

El Shemp's: Directly next door to the Finley (on its easternmost side) is a mid-to-high-priced cafe and restaurant, El Shemp's, which was once a part of the Finley until the connecting wall between the two structures was severed. Serving "Rustic American fare with a multicultural twist", it and the Finley share access to a formal garden which is often used for celebrations and wedding receptions. Semi-formal dress required; gentlemen must wear ties and jackets.

A Newsstand: Located a block down from the Fin, the Newsstand sells all sorts of newspapers and magazines from varying locations around the world. Currently staffed by two OC gentlemen.

The Majestic Theater: a revival house that shows independent features, cult movies and one (only one) mainstream picture weekly, it also serves as a performing arts center. Done in the Greek Revival style, it occupies the westernmost corner of the block.

Cup of Grace Chapel: A multi-faith house of worship, which occupies the easternnmost corner of the block. There's a coffee house in the basement.

Dearborn Common Gardens: A Frederic Olmsted-style "emerald necklace" of a park, Dearborn Common Gardens occupies the entire block facing The Fin. It has bike paths and walking trails of varying difficulty.

PARKING: There is a parking garage two blocks away. There's also free parking curbside up and down the block for Fin residents only. Unless it's winter and the plows are set to come through...

Also In Dearborn:

S-Mart: A combination discount store and supermarket, The S-Mart has just about anything you might want or need, at a reasonable price! Think Wal-Mart meets supermarket.

ash--evildead suggests you don't attend the midnight madness sales. Or eat anything from the food court...

Currently working there:
ash--evildead: Housewares employee, occasional register sitter, unofficial security detail.

The Loft District: A gathering of warehouses across town, which have been converted into loft buildings. teethkicknheels has several contacts who live there.

Known Personages: Jane, a metal sculptress/forger

I'm sure we can come up with lots and lots of different establishments that could and should be located in the neighborhood; lower-priced restaurants and the like. You know that Ash wouldn't be caught dead eating in El Shemp's, unless it was a special occasion (It would require wearing a TIE, gasp!).
