Late-night insights and whatnot. Some shit edited for brevity,
gimmexpoison (11:49:15 PM): i think organized religion is horrible
boycott aaron (11:49:31 PM): Exactly.
boycott aaron (11:53:10 PM): I kinda just believe in SOMETHING. It can't be described, it can't be characterized, it can't be anything that we could explain rationally or even find some word to label it because no matter what it wouldn't make sense to us. It's like having some memory right on the tip of your mind but as soon as you reach for it everything kind of distorts around it... See, I can't even try without it sounded like garbled crap.
boycott aaron (11:53:15 PM): And that's what I love about it.
boycott aaron (11:58:38 PM): It's like, standing on the edge of a cliff and preparing yourself to jump. After you get used to the idea of falling, of death, and of everything about what you're about to do, you finally jump, and then the world moves instead of you.
gimmexpoison (12:02:03 AM): the more i think about it, the more i think we're constantly surrounded by miracles
gimmexpoison (12:03:38 AM): right now millions of cells in my eyes are picking up rays of magnetism reacting with rays of electricity (light), and turning it into an image. millions of nerves are shooting electricity down to my hands to move at the speed off light, all of this while my lungs process oxygen and puts it thru my blood...without even thinking about it
gimmexpoison (12:03:56 AM): and thats just the human body
gimmexpoison (12:04:01 AM): its fucking genius
boycott aaron (12:12:55 AM): We never think about things like this, but take mathematics, for example. Math is mind-blowing. And it's not like anyone can claim to have "invented" mathematics... It's a natural system that exists in everything, honestly. But what do we really think of when we think of math? Numbers and equations etc. What is a number? It's absolutely nothing. It's just a symbol that represents a quantity. It's what WE think the numbers "4" and "218" should look like, and so on and so forth. As soon as we try to make something our own it just becomes a cheap, stripped-down version of itself. That's how I see religion.
boycott aaron (12:29:00 AM): The thing that felt most unnatural to me, honestly, was saying I was an atheist.
gimmexpoison (12:30:03 AM): man
gimmexpoison (12:30:14 AM): you mean all the time?
gimmexpoison (12:30:17 AM): or after a while?
boycott aaron (12:32:10 AM): After a while. Because I've always been a very spiritual person, you know? I was never religious but I always wanted to know the truth, so I was always into religions and shit. To me atheism is too final. I mean, come on... Like anyone can really say, with 100% conviction, "There is no higher power."
gimmexpoison (12:33:15 AM): yeah
gimmexpoison (12:33:28 AM): it almost takes more faith to believe theres nothing
boycott aaron (12:35:39 AM): Exactly. And therein lies another funny point: atheism is grounded in the idea of logic, and the idea that faith (the belief in something you CANNOT PROVE exists) is illogical... Well, if you cannot prove that something exists, you can't prove that it doesn't exist either... Although belief by proxy is fucking retarded as well.
gimmexpoison (12:38:45 AM): yeah
boycott aaron (12:47:27 AM): The idea of home is symbolic on many levels. Safety, security, comfort, the known. So it fits as a symbol of beliefs. As for me, I prefer to dive into the unknown headfirst with no life jacket.
boycott aaron (12:48:29 AM): Instead of saying I believe in this system or that (as in other religions) and then living my life by it, I have more of a jello-ish structure to my beliefs. lol.
boycott aaron (12:49:04 AM): There's definitely solid matter there. My beliefs are solid. However, everything around them is constantly shifting, changing to adapt my mind to the way I perceive the world.
boycott aaron (12:49:15 AM): It's really weird.
boycott aaron (12:49:52 AM): And that's what I mean when I talk about the weird experiences I have had lately. Things that really made me reevaluate myself.
boycott aaron (12:52:18 AM): Sometimes it feels like I'm not fully in control of myself. Like the things I just typed, I don't know where those weird analogies and ideas came from. They just came out. I get that way when I'm playing drums with AMoB too. It's not really an out-of-body thing, but I feel more like a spectator in my own body. It's just raw emotion, pure and unbridled. If I could ever think of anything that might be an inkling of the way I might describe the higher power, that would be it: simple, pure, unbridled emotion.
And that's how I see it.
