BACK TO HAWAII IN FIVE DAYS AND COUNTING!!!
whew, that was dramatic.
so... went to miami last weekend for the youth program supervisor conference. actually, first i missed my flight, through miscommunication and me being stupid. but when i finally made it, i had loads of fun. we were put up in a really nice hotel (yay company for once!) and though i had 2 roommates, it was a suite -- so ahh. i was expecting to know 5 of the girls there, but only knew 2. (the other three were getting married, resigned, and unavailable.) despite that, it was really nice to actually meet everyone else with my job in the fleet -- plus my bosses, whom i've never actually met! oh, giant corporation, how i love thee. we had 2 full days of talking, games, etc. in the conference, and some room around the edges for shopping, drinking, and quite a lot of gossip. you may think that cruise ships run on fuel or some such, but they don't. they run on a distillation of pure gossip.
and i got to talk to the girl who took over my vacation that everyone hated and who made one of my staff resign. once again, this is all gossip, because i never spoke with her once while i was on vacation. and we were extremely pleasant to one another (but we'll never ever be friends). but when i talked to jena after the conference, she seemed to think we'd had a face-off. in fact, i got asked by dave via jena on the phone, "didja bitch-slap her??" well, no, i didn't. nor do i need to tell dave about it, because i'm not even sure which dave that was, whether bridge dave, bar dave, or another miscellaneous dave that i've forgotten due to 2 months of not seeing people every day. does it matter? not much.
anyway, yeah. it's much colder here than in miami. i'm getting ready to go to the warm. i got my hairs cut (all of them!) and an eye exam (my prescription's even worse!) and brought some suitcases and clothes from the other house.
it's so unbelievably bedtime.
note: the title quote is from bright eyes (the song
"make war"), and it reminds me of the ship whenever i hear it. the whole thing goes:
"but the truth is that gossip's as good as gospel in this town -- you can save face, but you won't ever save your soul, and that's a fact."
