A short update.
As he was trapped under his sheets with his new alien friend, Polly, Simon couldn't help but think how funny it was that one moment, he was politely greeting a new neighbor, then the next, she had him pinned against his bed, her strangely ridged and rippling tongue in his mouth. It was an unsettling sensation, her tongue was like a precision instrument, sharp and forceful. Nothing at all like his memories of his first and only kiss before, in the closet of the computer lab at his high-school. At least his alien neighbor doesn't have metal dental appliances like the girl back then.
Her body feels strange, though he can' necessarily say it's strange in an unpleasant way. He can't comment much on it at all, in fact. Perhaps all women feel this way, perhaps everyone is supposed to have tiny tentacle like fingers in there. He finds him self suddenly wishing he had paid more attention in anatomy class.
Before he knew it, everything was over. They were awkwardly dressed, sitting on his bed and staring at the wall. His hands were trembling and his throat was parched. He felt elated, but suddenly was washed over with a strange sense of emptiness. Like she had taken something from him that he couldn't get back. She just turned her head in his direction and smiled, her bared teeth an unnerving juxtaposition to her empty black eyes.
Government grant or not, it was moments like this where he couldn't fathom why he decided to move to the interspecies research colony on the desertous world of New Dresden. It was full of creepy yet stunning aliens. Just like her.
After a few more moments of silence, she crept out of his room and started on the small pile of dishes in the sink. He watched her from afar, suspiscious but enamored. At an instant, he knew he couldn't bear for her to leave.
So he asked her to stay. And she took him in her arms with an enthusiastic "Yes!"
"Yes, I'll stay. We have a bond now!"
As days turned into weeks, Simon couldn't help but notice changes in his mate. Her fierce appetite increased greatly as something seemed to be growing deep within her. Could his dreams of a family finally be coming true? If so, then why did her changing body terrify him so much every time he say something moving under her skin?
Afraid to ask he shrugged it off and went to work as usually. It was early winter when he had graduated from the police academy and started work as a patrol officer. He even made friends at his job, including his partner, a nice human woman. He wanted to ask her if she had any tentacle like appendages hidden in her depth, but he knew it would be deeply inappropriate. So he always smiled politely, passed her the coffee, and kept the discussions to news and weather.
And though there was the occasional exchange of affection at him between himself and Polly, they both managed to keep to themselves in his tiny house. He would exercise almost by compulsion.
She had an intense love for television and Chinese takeout.
And though his hallucinations of the therapist had all but vanished, sometimes Simon would get strange, secret visitors in the night. Somehow the domestic life hadn't yet turned out to be all he had hoped.
