I have a friend who is going for an art-ed degree right now, she's really into it and she really wants to work with younger kids, but the education classes drive her crazy. A BFA qualifies you for basically nothing, it's like have a bachelor's degree in english or something, it just says that you went to college. Grad school for artists amounts to being able to teach, and maybe a bit more respect when you apply for shows or whatever.

Most of the people I know who did it got some of grad school paid for but not all of it, or like they got tuition paid for but nothing else so they had to take out loans to live on. I know a guy who's in his 40s and just went back to grad school for sculpture and he seems really happy and excited about it.

I don't know why I'm telling you this. I don't know why I'm commenting at all. We haven't spoken in years and as someone who a) has never had any interest in teaching and b) dropped out of a non-degree granting program I've got no business telling you what I think about any of this.

But I think you should go for the BFA for now.

Actually I'm happy to hear some input, especially from someone that I used to have art classes with. I think it's always good to hear opinions. So thanks!
