On Disney Movies

As a kid born in the eighties, I was of course affected by the “Disney Renaissance” of the early nineties. You would be hard pressed to find someone in their twenties and early thirties who doesn’t think back fondly on those movies. The individual movies had their issues, no arguments there, but as a whole there really was something special going ( Read more... )

Dude, I went to see the Muppet Movie the other day and had to endure a barrage of Disney previews. They were all painfully, painfully awful. Check this one out:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1667353/

Or, if you're a glutton for pain, here's the preview: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kpLVO396eHs

There are so many things wrong with this that my brain explodes. Let me count off just a few of them:

1. The idea of Julia Roberts being old, ugly and fat doesn't make any sense.
2. Trying to spice up the character of narcoleptic princess by turning her into a sword-fighting bandit would be painful enough if they didn't make it clear that the poor actress doesn't know which end of the sword to hold.
3. Making fun of little people as comic relief. Classy. Didn't they get the memo that Peter Dinklage is Stud of the Year? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I9N1xatDp-4

I rest my case.

A) Peter Dinklage is the coolest man on the planet.
B) There are actually two different Snow White movies coming out from two different studios. The other one is much darker and has Charlize Theron as the evil queen. I'm not saying it looks good but it does look better than the Julia Roberts one. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=THX2WRftK68&feature=youtube_gdata_player
C) How was The Muppet Movie?

I thought the Muppet Movie was cute. Not something to write home about, and not really something you need to see in the theater, but I've always loved the Muppets so it was cool to see them again, and the villain was truly fabulous!
