I'm listening to the press conference for the Black Forest Fire north of me. Last year's Waldo Canyon Fire was the most destructive fire in Colorado's history in terms of property loss. Now, the Black Forest Fire holds that title. 360 homes lost is a staggering number.
Black Forest fire claims 360 homes, most ever in Colorado wildfire There are 38,000 people evacuated.
Here is an updated map of the mandatory and voluntary evacuation areas. There is one small section just east of I-25 and north of the word "Monument" listed on that map. That is where my good friends Chris and Julie live. The orange area just to the left of "Air Force Academy" is where my friend, Britt, and another friend, Mary Ellen, live. Mary Ellen is visiting family in New Jersey right now, so she's pretty freaked. She had her son drive down from college in Greeley, CO to go and pack up some important items.
