Greetings Everyone!
As we move closer to Califur I thought it was time for your single yearly
information e-mail. In this informational e-mail you will find; sneaks
peeks, information on our Guests of Honor, Hotel information, Charity,
convention high lights and what we would love to see from you guys this
year!
Guests of Honor:
Our Guests of Honor this year are quite amazing if I do say so myself.
Mitti (aka Touch my Badger) has been working hard on the Califur shirts,
conbook art and badges. Rumor has it there is a something special about the
shirts this year, but you didn't hear that from me. If you want to check

Califur is once again back at the Irvine Marriott! Located mere blocks from
John Wayne Airport, access to the airport and local venues is quite easy.
Convention Rate is $129/night+tax, including parking. When booking online,
use code cfucfua or if you are calling to book a room please make sure that
you request the Califur rate.

Charity:
With your help and enthusiasm for fun, our charity will be the beneficiary
of all proceeds collected during the event. This year, we are excited to
work with The Cathouse on the Kings.
The Cat House on the Kings is California’s largest no-cage, no-kill,
lifetime cat sanctuary and adoption center. Our mission is to place rescued
cats and kittens into loving, permanent homes; to provide a safe, happy and
healthy home for unwanted cats and kittens in a unique, no-cage facility;
to prevent pet overpopulation through spaying and neutering; and to educate
the public about responsible pet ownership.
Lynea Lattanzio, who founded and runs The Cat House on the Kings, talks
about how it came about and gives you a peek into our unique environment in this video created by Jack Perez.
The Cat House is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation, receives no government
or public funding, and relies entirely on donations from the public to
carry out its mission.
Since its founding 19 years ago, The Cat House on the Kings has saved over 18,000 cats and 5,000 dogs (not counting the 40,000 animals we have spayed and neutered!) and currently cares for more than 700 cats and kittens, a dozen or so dogs and a handful of goats, who earn their keep as lawnmowers.

Highlights and Theme:
*Running towards the dim yellow light emitting from the shelter, "the
others" were close on her heals. Deep growls and lamenting moans came from the mutated and furious creatures, Oggy making a last ditch effort leap for the safe room, barely making it inside in time. Her wings opened just before she hit the ground sending her tumbling into a box of Califur Elixir. The glass rattled violently, as she groaned and rolled over. Scrambling she managed to get on all fours and press herself against the heavy steel door. The rotting and mutated appendages of "the others" scraped at the door, digits attempting to pry it open as she forced the steel door shut with all of her weight. A single digit curling under
the steel and falling free from its long dead owner twitched haphazardly on
the floor.*
"Eeesh."
Now that I have a moment of peace maybe I can explain what we are looking for this year from you guys! With such an amazing theme, we hope to see Califur attendees dressed to the gills... or fins.... or whiskers... in bad
ass attire. This can be anything, from reference to Post Apocalyptic movies
to video games. Even books like The Road are amazing for reference.
We want you to be the theme! With a theme this wide open, I hope to see
everything from robots to zombies and even mutant ninja cow weasels from
outer space! Ok maybe that's a bit too far, but you get the idea. Show us
the furry future, be it nomming on people's brains or racing each other
down the hallways flailing like you have over 9000 rads. ( Just make sure
you don't trip on any mutated baby furs, that might not end well.)

someone to help you figure out how to rig a cardboard box into an oven to
