Love Is Inevitable
*Chapter-1*
A man, dressed in black, was staring intently at the ground ahead. The grave of his wife laid there. His face carried unshed tears looming at the brim of his eyes. His face spoke nothing but sadness and heartache of losing his beloved wife.
“Hey Yunho, will you be my friend?” said a young girl.
Yunho still remembered the voice, the voice that rings the chords and strings of his heart. He still remembered his journey he had started with his wife that only lived short just like her.
*Flashback*
A white chapel was decorated with beautiful white and red drapes, white and red roses and lilies, ribbons, decorations, everything and almost everywhere. It looked like a grandeur palace that came right out of a fairy tale.
The groom was waiting for his bride, impatiently, at the altar. He was a very handsome man, adorning a very handsome black tuxedo with a white shirt and black tie. A small white rose, which was hanging, decorated his breast pocket contrasting with the colour of the tuxedo. His almond shaped brown orbs were glancing at the entrance every now and then. His bow-shaped lips were pressed into thin lines due to the excitement and impatience building up in him. And, his small face was contorted due to the overwhelming feeling that was bubbling inside him. Today, he was going to make the person whom he loved so dearly, his wife, his better-half, for eternity legally. He flashed a little smile at his only happy and silly thoughts while his eyes were watching the floor, oh-so intently.
Just when he raised his head, the huge door leading to the altar opened, slowly. His eyes averted directly to the entrance. The music started indicating the arrival of the bride. Then, he saw the bride’s maid enter along with her companion, holding a beautiful bouquet of red and white roses and lilies. Then, slowly yet gracefully, entered the bride of the day, with her hands hooked to the arm of her father.
When Yunho saw his bride, his breath hitched. He was literally gaping at her beauty. She adorned a beautiful white shoulder-less gown with white pearls attached to its hem and a huge beautiful bright red ribbon tied to her waist. She to, had a beautiful bouquet of red roses. The combination of red and white made her look like an angel descended on earth. She had a beautiful and sweet smile displayed on her lips. Her huge eyes sparkled and showed her happiness. Even with minimal makeup on, she looked outstanding. She was glowing, immensely. Everyone, including Yunho, present there was awed by her innocent beauty. And, Yunho, for that matter, just couldn’t take his eyes off of her. Their eyes met, for a short moment, while the bride’s father was leading her down to the aisle, to hand her to the man who now awaited to wed his daughter.
They finally reached the altar and the father, Mr. Go, handed his daughter in the hands of the responsible, young man who was going to wed his only daughter.
Yunho very happily yet gently took the hands of his bride. They both smiled sweetly at each other. A simple gesture was enough to display the love they had for each other.
The Minister of the Chapel cleared his throat to grab everyone’s attention. Half-moon spectacles perched at the end of his nose, the Minister carried an elegant smile. It was not every day that he gets to unite such a beautiful couple into one.
“Dearly beloved, today we are gathered here to witness the union of this man and woman in the holy matrimony in the presence of God and his children.” the Minister announced.
The groom and the bride looked at each other as a smile passed between them.
“Anyone who thinks that this man and woman should not be wedded, please speak now or forever hold your breathe” the Minister continued.
When no one spoke up, he continued on with the proceedings.
‘Mr. Jung, your vows, please.” said the Minister as he looked at Yunho to speak his vows.
“I, Jung Yunho, take you, Go Ara, as my wife, for better or for worse, for richer or for poor, in sickness and in health, till death do us apart.” said Yunho, softly, his eyes never leaving the face of his love.. As soft as his voice might be, it clearly carried a genuine sincerity and trust and love.
“Now, Ms. Go, your vows, please.” the Minister gestured to Ara to do the same.
“I, Go Ara, take you, Jung Yunho, as my husband, for better or for worse, for richer or for poor, in sickness and in health, till death do us apart.” said Ara, tears of happiness shining on her eyes, showing a beautiful bright smile.
“By the power vested upon me, by His Almighty and the Government of South Korea, I hereby pronounce you man and wife. You may kiss the bride” announced the Minister to the now newly wedded couple and to the whole world.
The crowd outburst in cheers and joys as Yunho’s lips met Ara’s. Everybody wished Yunho and Ara the best for their future. They both had tears of happiness in their eyes along with their parents, who couldn’t be anymore happier.
Suddenly, Yunho scooped his wife off her ground in his arms, carrying her in a bridal-style, catching Ara off-guard by the sudden action. She gasped out of utter surprise but latched her hands around her husband’s neck nonetheless. They made their way out of the chapel in the said position as husband and wife to start a new life, build a beautiful little world of their own with the immense love they had for each other.
*Flashback ends*
Yunho smiled at the very vivid memory of his wedding day. Then, immediately his other saddening yet beautiful and happy memory of Ara ran through his head. The time when she announced she was expecting a little bundle of joy, the concrete sign of their love, their child.
*Flashback*
“Congratulation Mr. Jung, your wife is 4 weeks pregnant. You are going to be a father. Now, you’ve to take extra care of her” said the doctor, smiling, who ran various tests on Ara to see what’s wrong with her.
“WHAT? I AM GOING TO BE A FATHER? DID YOU HEAR THAT, HONEY? WE ARE GOING TO BE PARENTS. WE ARE GOING TO HAVE A BABY OF OUR OWN. OH, THANK YOU. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR GIVING ME SUCH HAPPINESS, DEAR.” shouted Yunho at the top of his lungs, unable to hide the happiness and excitement of being a father that was bubbling in him. He couldn’t contain the immense joy he was feeling and that clearly showed in his face by the way he was smiling warmly at his expecting wife.
**
Yunho would baby-talk to the round and huge bulge Ara supported with her. Her abdomen had grown bigger, very much bigger. Yunho would shower it with kisses and caress the bulge with utmost love and care. He was going to be the world’s best father for his child.
**
Ara ran into labour at the ninth month. She did not have an easy delivery. She was operated to deliver the baby, during which she lost lots of blood due to internal bleeding. She had very less chances of surviving.
**
When Yunho held his daughter on his arms for the first time, lines of tears followed automatically from his eyes. The baby, in Yunho’s eyes, looked like a little princess taking her beauty sleep. She looked so fragile yet so pretty. He was a father and the immense joy made him proud. He roamed the entire hospital with his daughter on his arms and the staffs of the hospital joined the happiness with the father and daughter after the display of such enchanting moment. Everybody cooed at the baby and gushed at her. Yunho couldn’t be more elated when he finally kissed his daughter’s face.
But along with the rays of happiness came a dark cloud of sadness too. Yunho came to know of his wife’s sacrifices very late. He was heartbroken due to his wife’s critical condition and yet happy due to birth of his first child, his daughter at the same time. His mixed emotions pushed him into a dilemma. He was in trance onto whether to laugh and be happy or cry in sadness.
**
The doctor who was assigned for Ara’s case told Yunho the sad piece of news very late. “She knew her life would be in peril if she gave birth but she also knew how much you wanted this baby, Yunho. I told her it was too risky, that it would endanger her life but she wouldn’t listen. We did everything we could to help but the bleeding wouldn’t cease at all and we couldn’t do anything about it. Her condition is very critical due to this and she has very less time left with her” relayed the doctor sadly.
**
“She looks like her father, doesn’t she?” asked Ara to her mother-in-law while holding and looking at the baby, her baby, in her arms. The baby had brown eyes, bow-shaped lips and more over, a distinct mole above her lips.
**
Yunho could do nothing but stare at the floors of the doctor’s office with unshed tears of sadness and the sad feeling of fear, gnawing at him, of losing his wife so early.
**
“Umma, I am leaving these letters with you. I want you to give these to my baby after she reaches her fourth year. There are letters, some photos and memories that I would like to share with her. I want her to know me through these. I want her to know who and how her mother was. I want her to feel me close to her. I want her to feel my presence even in my absence. I want her to know how much I love her and will miss her” said Ara, tears rolling down her eyes, as she spoke to her mother-in-law, while holding her baby, in her arms. She showered her daughter with lots and last kisses. Sure, she would miss hugging and cuddling the little joy in her arms. She would miss the touch, very dearly.
Wiping her tears, Mrs. Jung nodded and took the letters, trying to calm herself. Though as much as she didn’t want to take it, as much as she didn’t want to accept that she’ll lose her precious daughter-in-law, she just couldn’t deny the fact. It was true. Ara had very less time, lesser than anyone thought of.
**
Yunho was sitting on Ara’s bed facing his back to her. He was in tears and all he could say was, “You are bad. You are very, very bad, you know that?” And he kept quiet.
“Yun, hey…Yun, will you be my friend?” asked Ara, a smile on her face as tears trailed her beautiful cheeks.
“Hmm…” hummed Yunho and nodded. He finally let out his choked sobs.
“Promise me you’ll never cry, never ever. Promise me” requested Ara choking with tears.
Yunho shook his head in denial.
“Anyway, you look very ugly when you cry” Ara tried to joke while holding back her tears and sobs.
Yunho shook his head in denial again, unable to comprehend with the situation he was at.
“Promise me one more thing, please.”
Yunho was still shaking his head to gesture his denial while trying to stop the tears running down his face.
“Name our daughter Jiyool. And call her J, just J. Will you do that for me, please? Please Yun…” said Ara hastily and finally breaking in free tears.
“Don’t go” Yunho finally said with a chopped voice and tears in his eyes.
“I’m sorry Yun. I’m really sorry. Please forgive me” cried Ara.
Unable to see his wife at this state, Yunho hugged his wife and laid his body close to Ara’s, on her bed. They stayed there in that position, for what felt like eternity, crying and consoling each other, speaking sweet nothings and treasuring the last moments with each other for forever to treasure.
After three days of constant struggle, Jung Go Ara took her last breath and bade farewell to this world from her family and loved ones. And, Yunho was there by her side, holding her hands in his, throughout, all the way, till her last breath. True to their wedding vows, they were separated by death.
*Flashback Ends*
Yunho took a staggering breath to calm his emotions as he opened his closed eyes. He eyed his now late wife’s grave one last time before he bade goodbye to her and let her rest in peace. A white lily was there, its petal fluttering with the waves of wind.
