It's rather heartening when my not-at-all-professional hobby that I mainly do for kicks ends up affording me unexpected gratuities. For example, I spent nearly five total hours last weekend and another four total hours this weekend grinding away at some frame by frame animation for a nifty little action scene Dr. Holocaust and I have been working on, and in gratitude (for the work thus far, which is maybe 30-35% of the total project, I might add), Doc took me to see
Captain America. (More on that in a second).
It just felt good. Maybe it speaks to the twenty year video game player vet in me to have something that took a lot of work (and frankly a few spouts of frustration here and there... rotoscoping is a BITCH) produce immediate and undeniable gratification. (ie a night at the movies, which is immediately stimulating and rewarding, versus say... a paycheck, something that has to be considered and possibly used for other things) I don't know. What I do know, however, is that as good as it felt, my philosophy and principles on doing hobby level video editing/visual effect work MUST remain the same. There may come a day when I decide that I want to make it more then a hobby, but until then it IS just a hobby, and I must appreciate it for that... and nothing else.
As for the movie...
Yeah... pretty much what Bob said.
