Decorative Textures!
I use these particular decorative textures all the time and many of these are very versatile and can be used in many ways and under many different PS filters. For example, the mm3butterfly texture below is great to use as a background or as an overlay above a person like in this icon. And in this icon by gallicka, decorative textures are used to create an awesome unique look.

Light Textures
LIGHT TEXTURES ARE LYFE. I use them all the time and the awesome thing is that you can make these yourself by setting some paint blobs on screen! These can also be used behind a background to add a gradient such as in this icon.

Paint and Grunge Textures
Paint and grunge textures are great to use as accent pieces to add a level of complexity in an icon and they also spice up a boring icon! You can create a look like the one in this icon by erzsebet.
