"So how're Kyou's lessons?" Shigure asked, not even glancing at the older man as he settled himself down to the table.
Kazuma, whose frown was even more prominent as he raised his tea to sip, simply answered, "Slowly." He then took a deep drink of the tea before sighing, his shoulders slumping and the heavy frown becoming more saddened.
Shigure then looked to him sympathetically. "Must be hard," he commented lightly. "For both of you, I mean. Kyou must be frustrated with having to relearn everything, and though you're trying your best to help him, he's too jittery around everyone. Except Tohru-kun." Kazuma watched him patiently as the dog smiled. "He's quite attached to her, isn't he?"
The older man didn't answer and stared into his tea. "Do you know..."
"Hm?" the novelist hummed promptingly.
Kazuma paused for a moment. "I think this is the happiest I have ever seen him. Without memories of what has happened to him over the years, there's no longer any shadows lurking behind his eyes." He hesitated again before continuing, "I only wish he could never remember...for his own peace of mind, if anything."
Shigure propped his chin on his hand, smiling still. "You're so selfless, Kazuma-dono. I know you want him to remember, if only to remember your time together with him as father to a son," he said, carefully watching the martial arts master. "I also know that you know Akito wants him to remember."
Kazuma's eyes met the dog's sharply. The younger of the two didn't even flinch, a dark look in his own eyes. That look practically demanded an objection, a challenge against Akito. Kazuma said nothing, however, and simply returned to sipping his tea.
