Just thought I would share 3 random moments in my life that scared the living shit out of me, albeit briefly.

1: I was having the most terrifying dream imaginable. Without going into to much detail, let's just say the dream ended with a horrifying visage screaming some inhuman noise right up in my face, at which point I woke up. The frightening part occurred when I could still hear that ungodly din even though I was awake. Now, when I wake up, I am extremely vulnerable and confused, and at this point I felt like I dreamt something so purely evil that it followed me out of my dream. Then I realized it was my alarm playing the radio at full volume.

2: The first month in Japan was pretty stressful and nerve racking. I had frequent insomnia. One particularly late night at 3am I decided to grab a sandwich from the Lawson nearby. The third floor stairwell had a window which directly faced the wall of another building, leaving a 2 foot gap in between. I heard a rustling noise, almost like scampering coming from the space in between the buildings just beside the window. I continued past the window with a general sense of uneasiness and kept my eye on it. I then so happened to step on the crinkliest bag in the world, and, in my moment of vulnerability, the loud crumple absolutely scared the shit out of me. The scampering also turned out to be a crinkly bag.

3: Just the other day, after a long day of work, I was taking one of the many escalators down to a platform at a surprisingly empty train station. Curiously, the escalator I was about to take wasn't running, so I just walked down it as usual. About halfway down, the escalator sharply kicked into gear just as a loud voice over the intercom made what sounded like a sinister laugh. It ended up being some dude with a stuttering problem announcing the next train, but for that brief moment it felt like I had fallen into some diabolical trap. It wasn't as frightening as the other two stories but it was easily twice as funny at the moment.

I guess in a past life I must have somehow done a huge disservice to the word "coincidence" cause right now it's really coming down hard on my ass.
