I had the idea this morning to start another blog revolving around the role of religion in the media, the exploration of my personal faith, and the relationship between the two. Interesting stuff. I hadn't realized how much he talks about gay people without actually talking about gay people, or to gay people.

The gay marriage debate makes my brain hurt whenever Bush and others talk about protecting marriage or sanctity of marriage, cause OMG, that's so not what they're doing and they know it. Cause if they were so concerned about protecting marriage cause it's the foundation of our society or whatever, maybe they should make it harder for straight people to get married, cause there's a 50% divorce rate, so obviously people aren't treating it as very sacred. Or maybe they should denounce Sweden where non-marriage is the norm.

Oops, did I just attack them with logic?!

I do think that the gist of what they--BushCo--are doing is merely gestural. They knew that there wouldn't be enough votes to win the Senate vote the other day, but it makes it look like they tried enough, thereby catering to social conservatives and Christian conservative leaders like Dobson. At the same time, I honestly think that certain supporters--Dobson, Senator Sam Brownback--do really believe that smashing gay marriage will strengthen hetero marriage. I read enough Focus on the Family bulletins growing up in church to realize that ( ... )
