interview meme:

1. Leave me a comment saying, "Interview me."
2. I will respond by asking you five questions. I get to pick the questions.
3. You will update your LJ with the answers to the questions and leave the answers as comments on my LJ.
4. You will include this explanation and an offer to interview someone else in the same post.
5. When others comment asking to be interviewed, you will ask them five questions.

answers to minicrewton's questions .

1. what exactly are you doing now? [i have a vague idea but i want some gorey details]
what *exactly*?? i'm sitting, legs crossed, in my twirly chair at my desk at mclean hospital listening to morcheeba in my headphones and typing into my cute l'il laptop, catching up on livejournal before i start my Day of researching neuroinformatics software and NIH research grant application draft writing.

2. if you could redo any one event in your life, what would it be and why?
oof, good question. lessee... hrm. i would redo... (what ONE thing would i redo??) ummmm... high school! i would redo my entire high school career. that's an event, right?

3. what do you think is the most exciting thing about neuroscience?
THE most exciting thing... i think the most exciting thing is that regardless of how much we analyze the mechanisms of the brain, even when we can break it down to tiny electric impulses and single molecular interactions, we still have no idea what makes thoughts happen. what exactly IS an idea?? well, it's the activation of millions (perhaps) of neuronal synapses that form a particular neural pattern and that pattern *produces or is a product of* that idea. the killer is that this is in a nutshell what we know - and we haven't answered the question of what an idea is at ALL! crazy stuff.

...hrm, so i think that the most exciting thing about neuroscience is that it's an exercise in philosophical frustration? well. maybe i should take this pottery hobby more seriously... =)

4. what is the one thing you are looking forward to the most in the near future?
my WEDDING!!!!! next june, to the absolute love of my life.

5. if you could relive any one moment of your life again, what would it be and why?
oof, another good question but i know the answer to this one right away. and it's hard to talk about - or maybe just admit...

when i was a kid, maybe 10? i dunno. i was young enough that i was still ADHD child extraordinaire, but old enough that it was near the beginning of the Rough Period between my dad and i - constant fighting, etc. anyway, when i was At That Age, my dad took my sister and i sailing with a couple of his friends. it was a breezy, sunny summer day. we puttered around awhile to the amusement of the adults and the agony of my sister and i. well, on our way back into port, the wind died. not as in "slowed down to a gentle waft" but DIED. nothing. sitting afloat in a dead calm. now, we're close enough to shore that were i an adult, i could have swam swum swam been able to swim it. but i couldn't. mind you, i had been bugging him to turn around for HOURS. (being stuck on a 26 foot boat and not being able to move around much is still my version of hell.) and so, being the uber-sensitive kid that i was, i turned to my dad and said, "well dad, you've failed me again..."

yeah. that was not my shining moment. i would give several toes to change that moment. i'm sure he doesn't remember it, but man, i will never forget the look on his face... ouch.

well. i'm going to go find a therapist now, minicrewton, thanks.

=)

good Q's! =)
