2x08

I, for one, welcome our newbie director debut in this episode. You rocked, man. That alone made this episode watch so much differently than the other ones this season, but in a good way.

2x08:Crossroad Blues

  • love the intro, it's cinematic with creepy atmosphere. And the intro victim does something stupid like walk outside when he knows the evil stuff is there. But even in XF the intro victim is always doing stupid stuff, so it's semi-excusable.
  • They're real...does that mean Dean had sex with a secretary in the middle of the day, at her workplace? That's kinky.
  • Haha, old man Dean isn't hip with the young un's and their website networks. But Sam knows. Can you imagine teenemo!Sam taking pictures in the motel bathroom with his bangs and side angle shots? LOL.
  • Thanks to the little asian maid, I officially have a good idea of how huge S&D would look to me. I love how they even had a shot of them from her POV, heeehee.
  • OMGOMGOMG *screams* I've been creeped out a few times before, but this is the first time something TOTALLY scared the crap out of me. That possessed mouth-gaping face both people saw, that terrified me. If I was actually there, I would be freaking out.
  • demon deals sealed with a kiss. If that's really true, John should have gotten a little action from Arthur Dales.
  • Dean's a blues man? That is kinda sexy.
  • I like this new director. I think I like him better than Kim. The perspective is more wild, erratic, gritty. ♥
  • LOL, S&D get schooled on demon protection, fabulous! And even after that, Sam isn't listening to the old man and still gets pushy. He's had a lot of practice talking back to John, that's what.
  • Hot damn, Dean's as strong as an ox! His powers of kicking in doors impresses me. Hahaha, and he's so foot-happy too, LOL @ Sam having to reign him in. XD
  • Geez, I would NOT want to be the person Dean has to save when he's having a bad week. If I had to listen to Dean preach at me (just who does he think he is, anyway?), I'd ask the motw to kill me instead. Lay off the poor man, pre-psycho Dean. *snicker* at Sam stepping in. It's like paranormal good cop, bad cop.
  • Aaah, yay for Dean not brushing off Sam and keeping him in his mind loop. And that's how it should be, telling his stuff to only Sam.
  • Ugh, that "actress" who's playing the demon is so. bad. She's Xena league, not SPN material. And I thought Meg was bad. I had no idea. Whyyy, WHY? Chris Carter would never stand for this crap. Can you imagine if he just went by looks and we ended up with a vapid, no-talent bimbo to play the blind girl across Mulder in that Mind's Eye ep? It would have been a disaster. But lucky for this "actress", the solid dialogue *hugs Sera Gamble* and the edgy directing *hugs the new guy*, and Jensen's insane acting chops *hugs Jensen. twice.* are the only thing that's making her bearable.
  • Speaking of Jensen, I have to say Jensen's talent is far and above CW level. The guy can work it. I almost want to say that he deserves so much better than Supernatural, but then we wouldn't have him as Dean. The looks on his face this whole time - Oh, Dean!
  • "A Devil's Trap? You've got to be kidding me." He is, darling. There's no way he'd let you inside his baby.
  • *sniff* Poor John, Nooo. I hope they get John out of hell. :(
  • And Dean turns up the music instead of answering Sam. Great touch!
  • Oh my God. That song, that video, the action, the THE IMPALA SKATING ASPHALT TO THAT SOUNDTRACK!!! A demon virus? DEAN SHOOTING A PERSON AAAAAHH, THIS IS WHAT I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR this whole season. "Now you're messing with a son of a bitch" = the song to herald in pscycho!Dean OMGOMGOMGOMG. They couldn't have picked a more perfect song, I could laugh and squee at the same time. God, that vid makes it out to be that Supernatural is going to be a different show - instead of angst, we're getting angst and action. I love that fact so much, because that's what SPN should be, an action drama, complete with bleak days, black nights, cold blood, and hot, hot licks! I feel like this whole time, from season 1 up till now, I've been watching diet SPN, emo Hardy Boys, but now they're finally going to kick things up a notch and get serious. And extras that look like real people instead of hollywood clones! Oh sweet mother of Kripke, I am SO psyched. IT'S ON NOW. He's bringing it. I'm so thrilled it hurts. They better live up to this vid, or I will be very dissappointed.

There was so much YES in this episode! I don't even know where to begin. The MOTW was scary as hell, the Dean angst/acting was flawless, the writing, the directing, the story, win, win, win, and they managed to keep in the humor, too. Still, I think Simon Says is better, mainly because Andy was awesome and that demon chick was a debacle.

And I'm hearing there's a three-week hiatus until a new episode. Is this true?

* * *

ETA: After Soundgarden made an appearance, I've been listening to Audioslave and those post-grunge bands from the 90s, and thinking how awesome it would be to see more of that on the show. It seems more SPNish to me - modern and classic at the same time, and not so dated/timeless. I totally feel an impala-centric playlist coming on.

review, supernatural
