Mod Post: I'd Like Your Input! (Please?)

Aug 12, 2012 18:25

Hello everybody~.

I've been thinking about what I can do to increase the liveliness this community. I'm super, super, seuperrr psyched about how successful it is already, but I'm curious as to if anyone has any ideas to encourage growth within the community. I have a couple of ideas I want to put forth. Anon commenting will be on, so feel free to agree or disagree, or suggest something yourself. Screened comments will not be on, being as I'd like to encourage discussion - flame comments will be deleted, constructive criticism will not.

First and foremost, don't be alarmed if I stop posting in this comm from my account! I'll be starting to post from kinkmodhat from now on! This includes any future mod posts, prompt posts and intervention-esque comments. This is for reasons quite evident and also may have something to do with perhaps getting together a mod team of sorts - just a couple of people to keep things running smoothly, but more on that later.

This could get lengthy, so I'll stick the rest behind a cut. I'd really like your opinions, please!!

I don't know about you, but I buzz around some other kink memes - not a lot, and not all of the time, but on occasion it has been known to happen. There's a common theme throughout many kink memes, and that is a theme post or a challenge post of some kind. I'm thinking about doing this on a weekly, bi-weekly or monthly basis, depending on popularity. For example, one [week/month], I would make a post to the effect of "Write 500 of your preferred driver's diary", or "START OF / MIDDLE OF / END OF SEASON PARTY! What do your pairing get up to?", or "Quickfire! In order to post a prompt, you must respond with at least 200 words to the one above!", etc etc, and you guys would go nuts. Drabbles, of course, would be the preferred medium, being as I want these posts to be challenge-orientated.

The thing that stymies me a lot is that the F1 fandom, where writing is concerned, can be a little thin. Not as thin as some fandoms I'm involved in, but it's certainly no Harry Potter, but I'd be really, really keen and interested to see feedback on this idea because I've been sitting on it for a while.

I'm considering having a couple of set prompt tables, just for those who, like me, get bored off their faces staring at a blank word doc (you could use them in conjugation with a full prompt fill, for example). On the subject of prompts and prompt tables, I also have had a thought about just a random prompt generator. If I can get it to work, then essentially you'd hit a button and it would hit you with a word or a phrase, and you could perhaps use that as inspiration.

As mentioned before, I have an idea of putting a mod team together. In the interest of anonymity, I would give you the login for the mod team email and livejournal account, so you don't have to post under your own username. In the interest of the community, however, I would need to know who you are. I wouldn't give out your details, not even to the rest of the mod team if you don't want me to, but I, at least, would know who you are.

The duties of the mod team would be generally keeping things tidy. It's not a hugely fire-filled community - you guys are very agreeable as a whole and it is a pleasure to mod you all - so there isn't a great deal of work to be done. Duties would include keeping the prompt masterlist up to date (mod team email address will have rights to edit), making sure comments requested at the comment deletion post get booted, ensuring the FAQ's are kept current and any new questions are answered, you'll need to keep a hawkeye on the prompt post to ensure nobody's getting out of hand and disobeying the rules and nobody's double posting comments, and pruning back comment trees that get out of hand and off topic (not always necessary, but they can be annoying to scroll past sometimes!). You'll also be charged with taking the initiative and posting new challenge (if it goes ahead) posts and prompt posts, and providing any mod updates (all mod posts will be discussed by all mods prior to posting, so don't get too initiative-happy with these!)

Basically, all the requirements I need of you? I need to know your LJ username and need to be able to see you're active because I'm going to be entrusting you with what has essentially become my little darling. I'm aiming for a group of three or four. Please express interest, if you are interested, in a comment below (and be sure to track said comment if you're anon!) - you don't have to commit to anything yet, because I'm waiting to see how popular any ideas become. No use having a mod team if there's nothing to mod, eh? You will be required to show utmost impartiality towards pairings and drivers. I, personally, have much contempt for a handful of drivers and pairings and even particular prompts, but I do not let it affect my judgement. Sometimes I do balk and scowl, but I don't go around deleting comments or flaming because I don't like something.

And of course, if anyone has any other suggestions on how to encourage new writing, new ideas, new anything around here, fire at will! I'm all ears.

TL;DR
    •       Weekly / Bi-weekly challenges? Yay or Nay?
    •       Prompt tables you can use to try and write? Yay or Nay?
    •       Single prompt generator? Yay or Nay?
    •       Mod team! Yay or Nay? (Subject to Naying if there isn't any Yaying for anything that would require a mod team).
    •       Suggestions of your own?
