Wow, that ST3s is purty...I've only seen the ST2 and ST4 before. Almost ended up with a Duc ST when I picked up the Sprint. Please tell me there are either twisties or high speed cruising in your extended commute home for you to thouroughly enjoy that machine before returning it to volta.

In my extended commute home? Yes, all of that. I can turn a 20-minute commute into a 2-hour commute, cause I'm talented like that. ;-)

See? This is why [even though my ST2 is way too much bike right now] I know I made the right decision.

I'm slowly learning that the answer is to play on the clutch and never go above 2nd until I'm breaking past 40. Of course, it means the cars in front of me think I'm some impatient jerk.

Of course now I'm curious how your shifter behaves [assuming volta's is anything like mine]. Clearly I just need to hang out with folks more, and try different bikes.

40mph? Why shift out of first? :-D Actually, I know...first is usually really snatchy, so going to second is a good idea.

Honestly, most of these sport-centered bikes do like humming along in second all day long while doing in-town speeds. Heck, my sprint will run in second up to about 75 on the highway, but I like to go a little faster than that.

4 5 and 6 are just there to save gas and allow more speed on the track.

I agree with all of this. My big problem is still getting out of the "I drive my car around 3k rpm" mindset, and remembering that that is a slow engine speed on a bike. Also, still trying to not write checks my ass can't cash, as I know she'll do it.
