The worst time... again?

Feb 07, 2008 14:00

I remember the worst time I ever had on a motorcycle. It was around 1 AM, pitch black, and miles from civilization. I was almost hallucinating, fighting to stay awake, about 700 miles into a 1000 mile ride.

Why the hell am I thinking of doing it again? Talk some sense into me.

The Cal 24 Endurance Rally. 1000 miles, 24 hours, and some of best ( Read more... )

How about because you haven't had to keep your bike in storage for almost three months because of ice and snow?

You probably hate me, but yesterday was the first day I've ridden a moto in 3 months despite the reasonable temps and weather for most of it. I'm just enjoying bicycles too much right now.

Then I think this trip is entirely what you deserve ;P.

This year I'm planning on doing my first Iron Butt and hoping to do 50 national parks in 25 states.

Good luck!

You're more of a moto man than I am :) What kind of bike are you planning to do it on?

I have an 05 Boulevard C90. I'm going to try to keep it as stock as possible, just saddlebags and a GPS to help with documentation.

And I'm certain that I'm more of a moto-chick than you are ;)

A very wise man once said... something like...

"I don't understand these iron-butt riders. I like wine, too, but that doesn't mean I want to drink it from a hose."

Just... sayin'...

That's exactly how I felt around mile 800 of my last one, four years ago.

I vividly remember pulling over every 20 miles or so to rest / nap for about 100 miles. Ugh.

Well, then. motomuffin February 7 2008, 23:22:47 UTC
DRINK FROM THE FIRE HOSE.

But what if it's really really good wine?

The Cal 24? Hell, that's a sprint rally. A walk in the park. Now, if you get into one of the Team Strange, or Promise Breakers, or--ged help you--if you get an invitation to a Cognoscente rally, then you should be afraid.

What bike are you using?

My Couch-a-Saki ZX-6E. But yeah, I'm a wimp - some guy did the whole thing on an R1 and a Dainese one-piece last time I did it.

I would totally do the Iron Butt on the Couch. Eventually, that's gonna become my touring bike. I still periodically check for a Corbin seat for it.

Have you tried a Corbin yet? I'm not even 5'8 and my inseam is fairly short. It could be because I spend a lot of time on a GSX-R, but my legs have been feeling cramped on the ZX when I took it on longer rides last year. The lower seat height of the Corbin would only make that worse.
