Quick question for anyone who has had experience with both mesh and perforated leather. I am aware of the cost difference, and aware of the difference in terms of protection. What I am curious about is how comparable they are in terms of airflow and comfort in hot weather riding.
My parents also wanted me to come over this weekend and "look at something". Turns out my younger brother went and bought himself a motorcycle over the weekend. I commended him on the choice, a little Kawasaki Ninja 250R. I did have to question the reason for picking a brand new machine - I think it's the first time in my life I've seen an odometer reading of 1/10th a mile, not counting rollovers. Apparently that was my dad's decision, and I guess he talked the guy down to $2600 for it, so I guess that's ok. I did warn him that he will be sad when he drops it.
Unfortunately for me, I am apparently the most knowledgable person on the subject they know and have thus become the target for a barrage of questions. I feel less than prepared to be a source of information, as I still consider myself a novice rider. I passed along a few basics - go get the gear now and don't be sad when the tally hits four digits, and don't sacrifice quality for a few $$'s. Do take the BRC as soon as possible. Apparently he has a few pals from work who ride, and I advised against riding with them at least for the immediate future - 18 year old boys with too much bike and not enough gear do not inspire confidence as "riding friends" or someone to learn the ropes from.
I passed along a few other ideas but stressed the importance of reading up on the subject and getting proper education, and not just taking my word for it. I find it rather neat that he's interested in motorcycling and hope that he does it the right way - just a little overwhelming to have a thousand questions shot at me when I'm still asking some of them, myself.
Suppose I should warn him about new tires ...
