I got rid of the previous post, though I am keeping it for my records. Most of the stuff I very badly wanted to talk out has been talked out. Thanks to everybody for commenting. I don't take Avatar seriously, but the issues it's dug up of late are incredibly serious, and deserve a lot of thought. It's good, and strange, to see fandom harnessed in such a serious way, and it's good to witness people being passionate. I still don't know whether the discourse surrounding what is sure to be an awful awful awful movie is the best way to deal with the issues at hand, but as I have already said, it's a start.
