remember when we all used to meet here every day? we would have long winded and poetic discussions on the grander issues of life. or we would talk about the Spurs and how much the lakers suck...
But yeah, now it is not about paragraphs, but phrases. Soon, social media will be one word posts, and then guttural noises.
Eric says: blaargggh
Chris says: Feh
Junebug says: snnffff!
Laura says: fffftt
etc.
But I felt compelled to come here today and write a bit because I just read that Guru, he of Gang Starr and Jazzmatazz, has died.
And that kind of sucks.
If this was 2005, I would start talking about howI was fortunate enough to a part of, albeit on a small local scale, a movement in the early 90's when musicians and emcees all over the country started looking at each other with a 'you put your peanut butter in my chocolate' sort of vibe. While some of it was ridiculously dated, I'll argue that a lot of this music ranks up there with some of the most original and interesting American music of a generation.
But this is not 2005, and in 2010, I'll just say that Guru was at the head of this class. His marriage of quality jazz with mellow, deep rhymes showed the world what it was all about. Dude had skills.
Anyway, that is all.
oh, and: bwahhhh
