Title: Autumn's Last Breath
Author: Grace/ sweetestg_bye
Pairings: Angel/Collins
Spoilers: Speaks briefly of death.
Type of fic: Drabble
Summary: Angel and Collins share a moment on a beautiful autumn day while Anegl's health is failing.
Author's Notes: Short. First fic my friend masqueradestar has beta-ed and said it was fine how it was. Go me!

I also find it somewhat appropriate this was written on the aniversary of Jonathan's death. Maybe my muse has been overly helpful for a reason. ♥

“Sweetheart, what’s wrong,” questioned Angel from her hospital bed that had become her permanent home for the past few weeks.
“Nothing,” replied a tearful Collins sitting at the windowsill. He dabbed at his eyes before turning to face his ailing lover. “It’s just. . . I wish we could be outside instead of in here. It’s so gorgeous out and this is the weather we both love so well. It’s too sterile and cold in here for my taste anyway,” he added as an afterthought as he let out a slight chuckle as he enveloped Angel’s fragile body in his arms and gave her a kiss. “I love you, you know that?”
“I love you, too. Want to know what else I love?”
Collins laid his head on the pillow next to Angel’s. “What,” he whispered.
“Fall days like this. The leaves falling and changing, the holidays, snuggling with you under a big blanket sitting on the roof and gazing at the stars. . .” she gave that smile that meant trouble was just around the corner before Collins cut her off.
“Oh no! I am putting my foot down. For once I refuse to break any rules. Not after the strings Joanne pulled for me to able to stay with you. Not now. Not like this,” he gave her a kiss on the forehead as a tear rolled down his cheek. “All I suggested was a walk.”
“Then a walk it is! What did you think I was hinting at?” A mischievous twinkle settled in her eye and Collins knew he could not refuse. He never could when that look came into her eyes. It was also getting too late in the game to start now. He wanted their last memories to be happy ones.
“I’ll go get the nurse.”

Collins had been right; it was a beautiful autumn day. The trees were bright with the vivid colored, falling leaves. A cool breeze brushed the couple’s cheeks as they watched the leaves dance on the pavement. They sat under the giant oak in each other’s arms and watched as the wind blew the leaves away. They would learn that same wind would soon carry away more then the fallen leaves of the trees.
