anti-assimilation right on
October 30, 2013 at 8:01pm
so i will post here some "queer" anti-assimilation web items.
("queer"as a compromise since there is so much rigamarole about definitions of words out there, but i mean any GLBTI +)
i think, yes if you want mainstream suburban monogamous conventional life, go for it and i'm glad you found something that makes you happy.
but i also think there a lot of us (freaks? crimes against nature? misfits? just plain real, normal people?) who don't fit into whatever mainstream is and don't want to. there is a whole "queer" world or society that abounds with relationships and ways of life that i think are much more wonderful, kind, caring, nurturing, satisfying, and much less stressful & isolating, than mainstream monogamous etc. ways of life.
so i do think assimilating into mainstream america is not necessarily such a good idea;
and that there is a lot of the openness, innovative, communal, loving aspects of a "freak/weird/gaytranswhatnot" way of relating to others & living that should not be lost.
why be like _them_ when so many of them are isolated & suspicious & full of fear of not fitting in to the norm?
why can't _they_ be more like _us_, & have more freeform and accepting and loving interactions with lovers, friends, & community as a whole?
um ya, i need to write a more literate rant here, and yes this is fraught with generalizations,
but i hope you get the picture and are not annoyed by the quotation marks.
some links to things other people wrote (more thoughtful & eloquent than me)
