Head Canon

Head canon:

• Izanagi had Amaterasu, Susano-o, and Tsukiyomi, but due to Izanami, he had to leave and begin purifying the land for new life to be made. He took Tsukiyomi to raise him a gentleman and created Yomigami to raise Amaterasu. Susano-o was (obviously) raised wild even by the sea.

• Yomigami was (and still kinda is) Amaterasu's guardian, created only for that purpose until she was powerful enough. Of course, at a very young age, her powers to purify and cast aside evil emerged. Yomigami would have left, but she severed his contract with her father and made a new one between them. The orbs he holds in his dragon form are the symbol for it.

• Amaterasu found a young white boar as they wandered the land and she made Bakugami, believing Yomigami needed a friend. He appears older, but starting from creation, he's younger than Amaterasu.

• She was a rather rambunctious teenager and caused trouble for her two gods. It didn't help when she properly began to shift between wolf and human. During this time they came across Gekigami. He was killed in his mortal form, but she took his soul and gave him new life. Of course, that didn't change his temper; young Gekigami started the strange relationship between them by biting her the first time on the hand when he was just a month old. She really didn't have the sweetest temper. Yomigami became in charge of most of that care.

• Young adult, Amaterasu met her father and Tsukiyomi. With her brother, they go to Takamagahara to rule as a couple just as Izanagi and Izanami did before. There was no honeymoon. Still becoming acquainted with the older gods (and new ones created a little after their births and so on), Amaterasu asks for Tsukiyomi to meet with Uke Mochi. A fight between them occurs. Amaterasu defeats and demands Tsukiyomi to leave the Plains. He takes new residence on the Moon (most likely responsible for creating the Moon Tribe then).

• The Sun Goddess meets with the Celestials (the souls not condemned to Yomi). She takes in two considerably odd Celestials. The souls turn out unstable and sickly; the young goddess acts as surrogate mother, nursing them back to health. They are later named Kazegami and Moegami and remain with Amaterasu.

• She finds a quiet child's soul to be wandering around in the North without a home. Amaterasu retrieves him before demons find him. Itegami turns out to be Kazegami, Gekigami, and Moegami's age. They get along well... most of the time.

• Kasugami becomes the first goddess under Amaterasu when she's found wandering around the palace... of course, she's the first to find the alcohol too.

• Moegami and Kazegami bring a young girl in from the rain. She remembers and cries over her family's death. Amaterasu takes her in, giving her a new name, Nuregami. She doesn't cry too often anymore with her new family around... but she is very sensitive and shy.

• At this time, Susano-o visits to say he's going to see Izanami. ... Everyone knows what follows. Of course, he never gets around to that visit in this version. He wouldn't return for a good number of centuries even after Orochi's second defeat (What? He seems happy with the humans).

• Upon returning light to the world, Yumigami was found in the confusion. Her affiliation with darkness raises concern, but she later appears awfully attached to Amaterasu.

• Same could be said when a kitten appeared trapped on the roof. Then again, Kabegami became awfully glued to Gekigami. She still loves cuddling with Amaterasu though.

• Bakugami leaves for a while, but then returns with kids. Amaterasu doesn't ask, but she does take in three baby monkeys proving to be trouble for him. The Hanagami trio is a handful, but the goddess gets them under control via teaching them musical instruments.

• Kabegami captures a young rat and brings it home, not realizing when it becomes a small boy. Amaterasu takes him in because he's 'cute', but also still an infant under nourished. Tachigami is the smallest of everyone, but competes rather well against the other ones still.

• In order to solidify her place as new head Goddess, Amaterasu works on expanding her powers. She creates the Celestial Brush and marks herself and fourteen others in red to control each new power. Obviously, she chooses Yomigami and her children. They don't mind in the least. Of course, they were 'reborn' in a matter of ways, therefore becoming even closer to her.

Body and Appearance

1. Describe the character's height and build. Is she heavyset, thin, short, rangy?
Amaterasu I generally see about the height of your average Japanese woman, if not, a little taller; probably the average Japanese male's height. Her build is muscular, but curved and delicate (even if her behavior isn't always), with a large bust, but nothing outrageous.

2. How old is she?
Her true age is unknown. From the game, she has been on Earth for two hundred years, one hundred waiting for the Savior to be born and another one hundred in slumber. Of course, Amaterasu is a being born from Izanagi-no-Okami's (or Izanagi-no-Mikoto's) left eye upon his return from Yomi (the Netherworld). This is suggested to happen sometime after the end of creation so... whenever that is believed to be dated, take off fifty or so years.

3. Describe her posture. Does she carry herself well or does she slouch?
She tries to carry herself with dignity and grace, noble, but it's a little difficult when most of your memories are jumbled. Sleeping for a century makes you forget a few things like proper behavior. Still, her emotions do not affect her posture. It's always straight back, high, but not purposely haughty. It's just for good posture.

4. How is her health? Is she fit or out of shape? Any illnesses or conditions? Any physical disabilities?
Picture of perfect health. Only thing I might say is... some minor amnesia? She hasn't been in her human form for two hundred years until the SS Thor, but everything is slowly coming back. The way to turn human returned after a few day's slumber several months ago (the only time when Chouno was useful).

5. How does she move? Is she clumsy, graceful, tense, fluid?
Generally graceful, but there can be some clumsy moments or tense. Pay attention to her wolf features and that will say everything.

6. How attractive is this character physically? How does she perceive herself in the mirror?
Haha... she never saw her own reflection until the incident with Susano-o (Susano-wo). Goddesses tend to be beyond human beauty and she is no different. Her appearance is highly feminine; round hips, large chest, soft facial features, but somewhat sharp eyes. She's part wolfish though with white ears and a white, black-tipped tail. She's quite a motherly soverign figure.

7. Describe her complexion. Dark, light, clear, scarred?
For being the goddess of the sun, she's actually a creamy tone closer to pale. Scars do not remain on her body ever; they heal in time and disappear like the injury never occurred.

8. Describe her hair: color, texture, style.
White, wild bangs and flares at the crown of her head, straight down her back and it becomes somewhat wavy near her thighs. Wolf, her fur is very silky and soft while human, her hair is no different.

9. What color are her eyes?
Game depicts them as black, but counting that the art style of the game was all in sumi-e, all the characters had black eyes. Her eye color I think would be amber, almost gold though red would make sense too.

10. Does the character have any other noteworthy features?
Besides her wolf ears and tail, she gives up a glow. It might just be from her fur/hair being so white, but in her highest power, she's even brighter. I definitely say it's a bright light akin to sunlight coming from her.

11. What are her chief tension centers?
Ear and tail positions, but her shoulders will stiffen when human and sometimes she will bare her fangs and claws. As a wolf, the common canind signs of tension come through. Her body will speak for her if she doesn't wish to talk.

12. What is the character's wardrobe like? Casual, dressy, utilitarian? Bright colors, pastels, neutrals? Is it varied, or does she have six of the same suit?
She wears what could be called kimonos, but are usually hybrids of tunics like her Celestial children. Back home, she would often be dressed in a short kimono for free movement and, while ruling, dressed as high nobility in a kimono of many layers, but it all depended on the occasion. For now, on Thor, it's the hybrid kimono-esque outside that's all white with some red trim. The sleeves are detatched and it's mostly bare to her chest. Her obi is red with a white robe in the center and she wears what could be considered thigh-high stockings that go down to her feet. A small ring in on her middle toe and she walks around barefooted.

Wolf form, she's large, but not gigantic. She's about an inch or two larger than your average wolf with wing-like appendages on her shoulders and all her paws. Her tail has swirls on it too, but all of this is only seen when someone believes in her godliness just like the red markings she has in game.

Before the game, she was considered to be given other forms, but a wolf was decided as it was a pun on Ōkami which means both "Great God" and "Wolf". If she does have other forms or will ever use them is up to debate for Mostly Harmless.

13. Do her clothes fit well? Does she seem comfortable in them?
Yes, they do and she's very comfortable in them. Her handmaidens make her clothes at home, but she can sew and weave her own threads.

14. Does she dress the same on the job as she does in her free time? If not, what are the differences?
Uh, it depends on the job how she's dressed. For example, when she was a Cosplay Model she had to cosplay.

15. You knew it was coming: Boxers, briefs or commando?
... None of them. Panties and either sarashi or bra. Sometimes neither; it depends.

Speech

1. What does this character's voice sound like? High-pitched, deep, hoarse?
Usually, I consider her voice to either be like Aoi Teshima, high, soft and whisper-like, or like Ayaka Hirahara, which is similar to Aoi but not as soft.

2. How does she normally speak? Loud, soft, fast, evenly? Does she talk easily, or does she hesitate?
She tries to speak gently and even as often as possible.

3. Does the character have a distinct accent or dialect? Any individual quirks of pronunciation? Any, like, you know, verbal tics?
Nothing considerably. She tries to be polite and she doesn't say 'won't'. She'll use other words like 'don't' and 'wouldn't', but not 'won't'.

4. What language/s does she speak, and with how much fluency?
I would say she primarily speaks Japanese, but honestly, I can't say if it's even that. She may be a Japanese god, but I would assume there is another dialect or language she can speak because of what she is. I mean, Gods didn't invent the Japanese language. Also, she's very fluent in animal chatter.

5. Does she switch languages or dialects in certain situations?
She knows Japanese because of her humans and probably understands some foreign dialects. Of course, she'll speak Japanese for the sake of others and animal when... well, she wishes to converse with an animal.

6. Is she a good impromptu speaker, or does she have to think about her words?
She's fine with impromptu speaking, but sometimes, she'll let her actions speak instead.

7. Is she eloquent or inarticulate? Under what circumstances might this change?
Eloquent when speaking to a new person/friend/whatever, inarticulate if it's someone she really feels for. Also, lots of embarrassed blushing.

Mental and Emotional

1. How intelligent is this character? Is she book-smart or street-smart?
Book-smart. She's read all her scrolls and retains much knowledge after reading up on different subjects. Of course, very little street smarts because... haha, what is this street thing? :|

2. Does she think on her feet, or does she need time to deliberate?
A little of A and B. It depends on who she's fighting, but usually, it's on her feet.

3. Describe the character's thought process. Is she more logical, or more intuitive? Idealistic or practical?
It's a little mix of everything. Her thought process is dependent on the time, place, situation, people, involvement, etc.

4. What kind of education has the character had?
Years of learning and watching. Of course, she doesn't mind learning more about stuff beyond her world.

5. What are her areas of expertise? What, if anything, is she interested in learning more about?
Her expertise include sewing, playing instruments, singing, traditional dance, writing, drawing, making barriers, creating talismans, sensing evil, expert with odd weapons (glaive, mirror/reflector, rosary), various crafts, and if she tries, cooking. You could consider her good with cleaning I guess and rumor is she's a good shot with a bow and arrow. Also, various god powers that do not include the celestial brush go here. She's actually interested in learning about other gods since her land is still separated from the rest of the world.

6. Is she an introvert or an extrovert?
Definitely extrovert and always willing to speak with others.

7. Describe the character's temperament. Is she even-tempered or does she have mood swings? Cheerful or melancholy? Laid-back or driven?
Amaterasu tends to be of even-temperment and tries to remain optimistic and cheerful for the sake of others. Whether or not she truly feels that way is never asked.

8. How does she respond to new people or situations? Is she suspicious, relaxed, timid, enthusiastic?
Likes meeting new people, of course, but there's always a little precaution until she can speak to them face to face.

9. Is she more likely to act, or to react?
Most definitely act.

10. Which is her default: fight or flight?
Fight.

11. Describe the character's sense of humor. Does she appreciate jokes? Puns? Gallows humor? Bathroom humor? Pranks?
She appreciate jokes and puns, but might get mad at other jokes.

12. Does the character have any diagnosable mental disorders? If yes, how does she deal with them? No dangerous mental disorders to note. Just head canon amnesia.

13. What moments in this character's life have defined her as a person?
Being born, banishing her brother Tsukuyomi (Tsukiyomi), feuding with and banishing Susano-o, fighting True Orochi, fighting Queen Spider, fighting Crimson Helm, fighting unsealed Orochi, fighting Blight, fighting Ninetails, fighting Lechku and Nechku, traveling through time, and defeating Yami.

14. What does she fear?
She doesn't show fear, but I guess she would fear losing her 'children' or anyone close.

15. What are her hopes or aspirations?
She just hopes for a peaceful world.

16. What is something she doesn't want anyone to find out about her?
... Actually, I don't know. She might tell you everything when you're close enough to her.

Relationships

1. Describe this character's relationship with her parents.
Amaterasu's relationship with her parents is... fickle. Gods never have good relationships with their parents usually and Amaterasu isn't really all that different. She barely sees her father since she's taken over the Celestial Plain, but he does, head canonly, come back on occasions to see how she's doing and find out if she has taken a spouse.

As for her mother, Izanami, she barely/never sees her. Izanami is the Goddess of the Dead and lives in Yomi, a place Amaterasu does not wander. Izanami doesn't wander out of Yomi as a hobby either. In fact, they only know they're related because of Izanagi. Neither of them have spoken face to face (except in the game when Izanami from Persona 4 was on Thor).

2. Does the character have any siblings? What is/was their relationship like?
She has two siblings. One is the God of the Moon, Tsukuyomi, and their relationship is on and off. Years ago, they were to replace Izanagi and Izanami on the Celestial Plain. Before they could consumate their marriage (I think that's the word...), they had to meet with the other gods their parents created. Amaterasu couldn't meet with Uke Mochi though and asked Tsukuyomi to go in her place. She prepared a meal in her godly manner which utterly disgusted Tsukuyomi so her killed her. To say Amaterasu was enraged was an understatement. She broke their marriage and never wanted to see him again so she banished him to the moon (this is also the myth on why there's night and day).

Her second sibling is the God of Storms, Susano-o (Many different spellings of this name). Their relationship is even rockier. They never saw eye to eye, but when Susano-o was going to visit Izanami in Yomi (some interpretations, he's banished to Yomi for a few years), he wanted to say farewell to his sister. At that moment, they both proposed a contest to see who could create more gods. To trick Susano-o, Amaterasu took his sword and bit it, using the fragments to make three goddesses. Susano-o took her rosary and broke the beads, creating five gods. He declared himself the winner, but Amaterasu pointed out he created gods from her rosary, something her magic resided in and doubted the end result would be the same if he had used the sword. Still, she allowed him to be victor and it would've been left at that... if Susano-o didn't decide to celebrate his victory. Amaterasu ignored him as he ruined her rice fields, caused an uproar, and defaced her palace, but when he threw a flayed horse (horses are sacred animals to Amaterasu) into her palace and killed several of her handmaidens, she became enraged. Of course, she let her anger out passively... and hid inside of a cave. The moment the rock blocked the entrance, the sun went out and everything on Earth began to die while demons and youkai became more active. Gods had to coax her out again (this is where the mirror came into play) and she turned on Susano. At her word, all his nails were ripped out, his godliness was stripped, and he was banished to Earth amongst the humans.

3. Are there other blood relatives to whom she is close? Are there ones she can't stand?
Amaterasu isn't considerably close to anyone in her family. She's close to the children she created though such as her brush gods and the Celestials.

4. Are there other, unrelated people whom she considers part of her family? What are her relationships with them?
Head canonwise, I consider her brush gods all unrelated. Yomigami was her guardian at her birth whom her father left her with. She is both his mother and daughter at the same time in that respect. All the brush gods, other gods, Celestials, and humans consider her the 'Origin of Good and Mother of to All'. Even Kaguya and Waka regard her in this way.

5. Who is/was the character's best friend? How did they meet?
Canon wise, Amaterasu's closest friend and ally would be Ushiwaka or Waka for short. He's a survivor of the Moon Tribe with Princess Kaguya, but he was the only one to arrive on the Celestial Plain. Kaguya fell to Earth and was adopted by an elderly couple. Waka came to the Celestial Plain on the Ark of Yamato, a cargo ship for demons created by the Moon Tribe. He was young and near death upon arrival, but Amaterasu took him in and forbade anyone from approaching the Ark as something was very wrong about it.

6. Does she have other close friends?
Issun, her little Poncle and current Celestial Envoy. The others would be Himiko (dead), Princess Fuse, Konohana Sakuya (Sakuya for short), Ishaku (Envoy before Issun), the Eight Canine Warriors, the people of Kamiki Village, Kaguya, the Oina Tribe, Oki, etc. It's really whomever she's met that was kindhearted.

7. Does she make friends easily, or does she have trouble getting along with people?
She makes friends fairly easily... doesn't save them from being teased sometimes though.

8. Which does she consider more important: family or friends?
That's a very hard decision... her family is important, but she mostly has friends. Sadly, you probably can't make her decide. Her family is immortal though and would probably make her pick her friends if it were a life or death situation.

9. Is the character single, married, divorced, widowed? Has she been married more than once?
Single. Certain myths say she was married to Tsukuyomi (yes, her 'brother'. I doubt 'blood' wise. Do gods even have a unique blood type?), but they didn't have any children. Her and Susano-o created several gods and goddesses in a feud (see siblings section) and one of them later went to the mortal realm to help rule over humans.

10. Is she currently in a romantic relationship with someone other than a spouse?
She doesn't have a spouse.

11. Who was her first crush? Who is her latest?
First crush? Gamewise or LJ RP wise? Her first crush would be Waka and latest would be Fai.

12. What does she look for in a romantic partner?
Who she looks for is someone strong, protective, loving, and wise. It's fine if they're good looking, but counting who her husband was supposed to be, they don't matter too much. She would prefer it if they too wanted a family, but not for any status reasons.

13. Does the character have children? Grandchildren? If yes, how does she relate to them? If no, does she want any?
'Children' by creation and 'children' by her and her brother's creation. She has not birthed any children in the sense of live birth, but she knows of it. She already has her 'children', but she wouldn't mind having her own with someone she loved.

14. Does she have any rivals or enemies?
Rivals? Anyone who upsets the balance or bothers people she knows. Yami was her primal foe and anything related to darkness remains that way.

15. What is the character's sexual orientation? Where does she fall on the Kinsey scale?
Amaterasu is Pansexual, but leaning mostly to Bisexual where everything's concerned. On the Kinsey scale, that places her number at 3.

16. How does she feel about sex? How important is it to her?
Sex is special and she only believes in saving it for someone she loves (haha, virgin). She probably doesn't mind the occasional fling if it's another female, but with the opposite sex, she has a right to be choosy. It's not too important to her for most of the year, but with her body altered part wolf, she makes herself suffer for four months to avoid the annoying biological tick for the whole year. The months are always winter, when the temperature is cooler and the sun is seen rarely. (January to April)

17. What are her turn-ons? Turn-offs? Weird bedroom habits?
Turn-ons are charm, kindness, fatherly emotions, having her ears teased, or having her tail petted. Turn-offs are anything maniacal, cruel pranks, just... many things in bad taste.

Beliefs

1. Do you know your character's astrological (zodiac of choice) sign? How well does she fit type?
In game, Amaterasu symbolizes the dog in the guise of a wolf. She pretty much lines up with it except for the cold part.

2. Is this character religious, spiritual, both, or neither? How important are these elements in her life?
She's one of the head figures in Shintoism. It's very concerning if people do not believe in her.

3. Does this character have a personal code of morals or ethics? If so, how did that begin? What would it take to compromise it?
One thing she strictly follows is if a conflict can be resolved without death, then do so. If not, that's unfortunate.

4. How does she regard beliefs that differ from hers? Is she tolerant, intolerant, curious, indifferent?
If people have other beliefs, that's alright. As much as she needs belief to stay alive, she will not force people to follow her. She's very tolerant and curious about other religions.

5. What prejudices does she hold? Are they irrational or does she have a good reason for them?
She wouldn't understand what you mean. Prejudice? She's fine with most everything except downright evil.

Daily Life

1. What is the character's financial situation? Is she rich, poor, comfortable, in debt?
She's currently comfortable on SS Thor. She lives in the apartment with Sync, several dogs, and two marmosets.

2. What is her social status? Has this changed over time, and if so, how has the change affected her?
Social status? Er... she's like every other refugee on Thor being that she's seen as a refugee goddess.

3. Where does she live? House, apartment, trailer? Is her home her castle or just a place to crash? What condition is it in? Does she share it with others?
Her home is the Apartments on the sixth floor and it could just be a place to crash as she likes to wander through the Gardens and Park. It's kept tidy and clean and she shares with another Refugee named Sync

4. Besides the basic necessities, what does she spend her money on?
Nothing really. She's actually saving it and spends it occasionally on gifts or saving an animal or two.

5. What does she do for a living? Is she good at it? Does she enjoy it, or would she rather be doing something else?
Amaterasu doesn't have a permanent job on the SS Thor, but she tries to pick jobs that she would enjoy. When I say 'tries', she really does, but the Guide screws up often to give her weird jobs... or she gets pulled into weird ones.

6. What are her interests or hobbies? How does she spend her free time?
She spends her free time playing with her puppies and taking care of those in need. Basically, she continues practicing her Goddess ways and powers that could both be the Celestial Brush and not. She hasn't made any other gods (not counting making Kiku during the de-age event), but she has turned Hayabusa into a young boy.

7. What are her eating habits? Does she skip meals, eat out, drink alcohol, avoid certain foods?
Eating is a pleasure so she doesn't do it too often unless to fill her Astral Pouch. She doesn't consume alcohol since it makes her clingy and avoids chocolate most often. Something about it just keeps her from eating too much of it.

• Since this will be necessary at her current RP, she can't be cloned. A skin sample, blood sample, etc sample will... well, you'll get a wolf. Maybe larger than normal one, but that's it.

- Obviously, there are more gods to be made with Okamiden coming soon, but this is probably it for now.
