This was the first Christmas day I can remember that neither my sister nor I did not call each other. I don’t know what that means.
Leading up to Christmas was very busy here. We had 16 for dinner and Laurie and Tracy both came out the weekend before and helped clean the house. I was so thankful for that. I ended up putting a few of my favorite little decorations up Christmas Eve and Christmas morning. Got up about 6 a.m. and started chopping and cooking. Wrapped the ham tightly in foil and warmed it up first, then got the potato casserole together (doubled that recipe) and baked it so it would come out of the oven shortly before it was time to eat. I went to Geraldson’s Family Farm the day before and bought several pounds of fresh picked green beans to make my lemony green beans. So good and there was only a few left in the bowl and I had them last night.
In a few days I’ll be making ham and potato soup. I found a recipe a few years ago called Uncle John’s Creamy Ham and Potato Soup and I make it whenever I have left over ham. Laurie took care of bringing all the drinks, the rolls and made a delicious chocolate peanut butter concoction for dessert. Tracy and Joe brought deviled eggs and pretzel salad. Cousin Rosie in California sent us a box of chocolates and I set that out with the desserts. After dinner we opened presents and finished up the day with dessert.
The temperature here was not quite 70 so we ended up eating inside. We set up two tables each seating eight people. It was a good time, but glad it is over and look forward to things somewhat returning to normal.
Three cardio tests for Pete were set up before Christmas and we ended up canceling them because I couldn’t even get him to the car. So now we have to have new dates set up for the tests.
I have always hated when people substitute the word Christ (in Christmas) with the letter x. What does that even mean? I wouldn't like X in place of my name when someone mentioned or talked/wrote about me?
A couple of presents that Pete and I got were a Ring Doorbell (Joe will be the installer of that), a puzzle roll up board/saver, back scratchers, a beautiful mosaic tray from my sister, candies and Hickory Farms box, $50 gift card, two beautiful hanging ornaments from Maria that are not Christmasy so I’m thinking of a way to display them year round, an electric blanket throw for Pete, and a bag of my favorite Asian trail mix. I usually put a blanket and sometimes even his clothes in the dryer for a minute or two to warm them up, now he’ll just use the blanket throw instead. We do get cold here in January and February.
I got a call from the gallery yesterday that I sold a 16x20 canvas, “Cutting an Apple for the Old Girl” to a man who is going to give it to his daughter. A nice way to end this year.
P.S. I rarely post without a picture, but it happens sometimes. Next post there will be pictures!
