[She hadn't married him for being suave, that was for sure. Though it didn't keep him from trying. She made him want to impress her, even if she'd clearly accepted who he was. Gracia and Elysia, his two reasons for always wanting to improve.

He had to. They deserved the best there was. Which didn't explain why she'd settled for him, but hey, he was happy.

Maes hadn't expected this either. Part of him had hoped, but he'd known that when he said goodnight before coming here was probably the last time he would ever see Gracia. Both of them were with him. Despite how badly he'd hurt them, despite the promise he'd broken of coming home, he had them again.

And his wife, his other half... She didn't have to worry. He'd already told a few women how happily married he was, and in truth, there was no one would could compare to Gracia. He ruffled her short hair before holding the offered hand and squeezing back.]

I get to bring you home. [His voice was happy and quiet, awed.] I should carry you over the threshhold again! After all, I'm bringing my bride to her new home!

[He nodded at her question.] They're some sort of entity, not benevolent or malignant. Well, most of the time. I think they get upset with us at times and are happy at others. They gave us a beach a couple of weeks ago! Daddy and Baby built sand castles, and Daddy got sunburnt since he was so busy putting sunscreen on Elysia that he forgot himself!

This place... it's more and less dangerous than back home. At least most people think of me as the idiot with pictures. I'm pretty well-established in that. The best physician here, a healer, Miss Unohana, knows my true face, and so do Kakashi and Neji, ninjas from another world. And I think Juke knows. He's a father too! His daughter was here for a while!

[All right, so idiot-with-pictures wasn't entirely a front. But that's why it was so effective.]
