using numbers to lie

Jun 14, 2006 14:56

My father believed that "numbers don't lie". Well, maybe when he was doing the counting but I just finished my monthly stats and whoo boy! Did I tell some whoppers. To quote a friend " I only use the ones that make my unit look good" (Lulu!) Well, the stats look OK but I know the numbers lie.... They do their jobs but the county has purchased a system which counts things 2 times a week and doesn't always pick things up the first time through... If you put it in at 4:01 instead of 4 on the dot and then it waits for days and may somehow miss it. Social workers aren't really known for their computer skills...Most of them can type but that's about all. They haven't grasped that the computer is not a person and cannot "understand" what you really meant.... just what you actually did. No credits for good intentions.. if you don't push save it all goes away and NONE of it counts.
My head hurts and I still have to research some things to see if my little procrstinator did better this month than last or if she just told me she did.... She swears she did.
And of course the fact that we data entry in one system and count out of the other adds to the fun.
A tour bus just went on by on my not very busy street. Why?
Whose? I can't afford to go so why do I care?
I just got a call from the local theater's big boss. Will I step up to understudy the role I wanted but did not get even though they know I don't do out of cast understudy? I told them I would for this part but no one heard that so now I'm US the US for the role I wanted. Grrrr.
But It will give me something to do while the kids are moving cross country.
Damn, I wanted that part.
