Pan's Labyrinth (English title) follows the life of a young girl (Ofelia) as she moves from her home in the city to her mothers new husbands family in the country. Its honest portrayal of the Spanish civil war is not for the easily upset or squeamish, and yet the story itself is not for the jaded violence lovers that horror and action movies usually attract. From an artistic standpoint it is a delicious array of tantalizing camera angles with special effects that sometimes leave a little (but not much) to be desired. The whole movie is Spanish with English subtitles, which makes it a little harder on the non-fluent in Spanish, but helps make the setting more believable.
This is a good movie to see
On your own
With a close friend
For a Spanish student
This is not a good movie to see
With a (normal) girlfreind
For the illiterate American
Over dinner
