shopping sucks

I went to Olympia Sports today to see if I could find a swimsuit for the summer. I currently only have 1 suit, and if I'm swimming weekly with my kids, I'll want another one. They were completely out of any size 40 suits, and 90% of what they had was Nike. I despise Nike, I think they're an evil empire. I only buy their throwing shoes because they're really the only game in town. Anyway, no luck whatsoever at Olympia.

On a whim I went over to TJ Maxx which was right next door and was even more dismayed at the selection. I am annoyed that manufacturers seem to think that if you're over a size 12 then you automatically need/want cup support, and a skirt and surplice/shirring etc. to "minimize problem areas". Hi, I'm an athlete. I have muscles. Fucking deal with it. Make me a suit that fits damn you. Of course the other side of things, on the 2piece section is obviously geared towards women who don't actually do anything in their suits, other than lie on the beach and look pretty. No thank you. Gimme a tankini or something with a sports-bra top and we can negotiate. But string? no way. I don't want my swimsuit to be "cute," I want it to be functional and stay on when I'm doing things. This is why I keep buying Tyr and Speedo, because they're meant to do things in.

So I gave up and came home, after skimming the purse selection. I really need a smallish purse for going out, because when I'm wearing a skirt or my painted-on jeans, i want something other than a big back to hold my stuff.

I then went online to Sierra Trading Post and bought not only a new suit from Tyr, (with racer back and wide straps and will actually fit and stay on and not look slutty) but also an aneurism green cycling jacket, because I'm tired of feeling like I may get hit when I'm wearing my navy jacket. Total: less than I would have paid retail for just the suit. Huzzah.

body image, wtf
