[He was kidnapped by the waterfront, beneath the moon. And still the scene of it draws him back: blue eyes soaking up the light hungrily. A beautiful young man, but his expression is quiet and troubled.]

[One of his (not technically his, but Arabia is Arabia) coming to sit at his feet. They'd been by the water the other day, her and the rest of the dogs, but she does like it, doesn't mind sitting quietly and watching it.]

[He looks down to consider her, wonders if he is surprised to find her as faithful as her counterpart. He sits down beside her after a few moments, rubbing the back of her neck with a thumb.]

It is time for you and your Tinkerbell to be sent home, I think.

[Alarm is instant, turning wide eyes to him.]

Did I--

[do something wrong? But she cuts herself off, because no, that isn't what he means. He means home to her Arabia.]

Yeah, I guess.

[She rubs at her nose a bit, trying not to think about how her reaction to Arabia sending her away like that was panic and fear.]

[He sees her fear, frowning slightly, he moves his hand up to her ear, drawing her close to murmur into her temple,]

There is no one sitting at my feet.

[Her Arabia is standing alone, and that is as close as he will ever come to admitting to appreciating the company.]

[It takes her a minute, getting past the initial reaction of 'I'm here', knowing Arabia wouldn't say something that obviously wrong, realising what he's actually saying. The dog in her hates the idea of her master being lonely, wants to lick at his face, but she stops herself from doing that, just stays quiet and still under his touch.]

Okay. Think m'gonna miss him-- them. Got sort of used to there bein' four of us.

why. it's adorable. I love it. of_arabia September 17 2010, 00:01:56 UTC
I noticed.

[He says this dryly, had already had the fully ridiculous task of making sure she hadn't allowed either of his beasts to inseminate her. Disgusting, truly, but he would rather accept that they're only dogs than discuss their sexual habits with them.]

But you will grow just as used to it being only two again.

[Very short attention spans, chihuahuas.]

[She goes a bit pink, although not quite as pink as she had when he'd come into their room that morning and done whatever 'morning after' spell it was. She didn't mean like that, at all. She meant being about to talk to the other Bambi, to have someone who knew exactly what she was thinking and feeling and why.]

Yeah, I know.

[Short attention spans, but she hasn't given quite so much of herself to the dog as Tink has. She won't forget, and she'll miss the boys, but they have to go back to their Arabia sometime.]

It was nice, for a while, visitin'.

[Which is sort of a thanks without saying thanks, because it wasn't exactly Arabia's choice that they'd come in the first place. Just that he hadn't sent them home straight away.]

[He runs his fingers through her hair lazily.]

I suppose it was.

[He agrees. If didn't mind having all four of them, they were beautiful together and they kept themselves better entertained and out of trouble, the he's sure that won't last much longer. His hand strays across her back, over her shoulders where he can feel his own magic humming in her skin.

It was ridiculous to keep four dogs. Highland was very patient with him, and would never say a word about it, but Arabia knew. And he knew that there was a version of himself sitting alone at the waterfront without his... terribly faithful dogs to put their drooling faces on his shoes. No heads to pet, no breakfast to make. They were wonderfully distracting from the decision actually set before him.]

[That's more than she'd expect from him, really, even if it's only a suppose. She smiles a little, spine arching into his hand very gently, tries to keep her love of being pet as subdued as possible (still convinced affection will be taken away, especially if she shows how much she appreciates it).

She's glad he let them stay, and she's glad that he liked having them, but he's right. Her Arabia is all on his own right now, had the same troubled air around him last time she saw him, and she's not there to try and dispel it by sitting and watching the water with him.]

[He pets her, whether she wishes to admit to enjoying it or not. But eventually there is a question that should probably be answered, because in the end: she will be sent home and it will be as if he never asked it:]

Why are you here, Bambi?

[She peers at him curiously, a little nervous of that question. Any question, from Arabia, aside from the basics. He's made it clear time after time that they're pets and they're dogs, not really there for conversation. But he does talk to her, sometimes, listens even if she's just a stupid punk girl with a chihuahua in her head ( ... )

[Arabia had never really brought the dogs in to be his pets. He had been haughtily insulted by their infringements on him, sought to punish them like it was his right to do so. He would have happily humiliated them for a much longer period of time if his brother had not deemed them to be a convenient vehicle with which to teach.

He answered to his brother always, it was as much a part of his personality as his vanity and his pride. They were never meant to be pets, but they had become so nevertheless. Tinkerbell's affections were won easily with just a little praise and Bambi... He doesn't truly understand dog mentality, is much more catlike in his own nature (ermine: sleek, fussy, vain.) He doesn't know where Bambi's feelings come for, the protectiveness, the comfort. Something distant inside him thinks he should be insulted by it, that he should need such an unimportant creature's protection.

He gazes off out across the water.]

When you return, behave yourself impeccably for Futuna.

[She hadn't expected an explanation, not really. Maybe even Arabia didn't know what was wrong, but she doubted that. He just wasn't going to share with his pet dog. But she really hadn't expected that response, doesn't really understand what he means, looking at him again.]

Futuna?

[She doesn't really like Futuna, the jungle witch scares her. Not quite the same way Highland does, but at least Highland doesn't bother them unless they get in his way. Futuna likes to tease and torment, if she doesn't have better people to be talking to. She'd really rather avoid her.]

[His mother is going to die. He is too weak to resist the temptation to try and live beyond the serpent's borders. It's... painful. His vanity and pride are going to disappoint his brother's expectations. But... if he can find his own strength, it will be worth the pain, he will have vindicated himself, and Futuna, and raised himself up for Highland. He has to try, but the dogs will be the only grandchildren she knows.]

Do as she says.

[He murmurs it faintly as he strokes the girl's hair.]

[She still doesn't really understand, but she won't try and get him to explain. Her eyes droop closed a little, peaceful under his touch.]

Okay.
