[ He smiles an odd kind of smile. ]

My name's Linus. I'm one of Adrian's.

Oh, the guy who hates sun like me! I'm Toby, nice to meet you.

What do you mean one of his, though? [ nose wrinkling slightly. ] Please don't tell me you're a wolf. You don't smell like one, at least.

[floridism]

[ Linus smiles a little wider, just enough to expose the whites of his teeth, the points of his incisors. ]

Far from a wolf. But one could argue equally animal.

[heavytouching]

Oh, thank god. [ this is an audible sigh of relief. 8| ] They smell hideous.

[floridism]

[ A laugh as Linus quirks an eyebrow, a silent oh really and then runs his tongue along the bottoms of his teeth. Incisors longer than the were a moment ago. ]

Have a lot of experience with them?

[ oh. well. that explains a lot. ]

Luckily, no. One helps with the, uh, business, [ a vague gesture ] but other than that I avoid them at all costs.

[ she leans in, smiling again. either way, she's still keeping her fangs to herself. for now, anyway. ] So. I still don't get what you mean by 'one of Adrian's'. Unless he's the leader of a coven I've never heard of.

[floridism]

[ Linus stows the fangs again, and flashes her another wry smile. ] Coven. They're called clans in the city. And he's heir to the throne.

Different places, different vocabulary, I guess. [ a curious sound. ] Throne for what exactly? Or do you call your leaders kings?

Princes, actually. Though where I'm originally from we didn't call them anything at all. They were simply 'the one's in charge'. Didn't need anything more than that.

Same here, I guess. We only call them leaders when we're referring to their position in the coven. That's pretty intense, though -- I don't look at coven leaders like royalty, even if some like to act like they're kings and queens.

[ Linus laughs and tips his chin to one side to obscure his smile. ]

That would be Adrian, yes. But he's earned his arrogance. He's a good general.

Plus arrogance isn't always a bad quality. My stepbrother has his moments and I love him all the more for it.

Arrogance is the result of too much self-confidence. And only the confident manage to truly succeed. [ He gives her a measuring look. ] So where is this coven of yours?

[heavytouching]

Nebraska. [ wrinkling her nose again. ] Which sounds totally lame. I wanted to go to New York, but no. We live in a pretty metropolitan area, at least. And the sky is cloudy more often than not, which helps.
