It's the start of a rough day.

Yellow crime scene tape blocks off one of the city's busier streets, and the locals seem antsy with blue uniforms and patrol cars up and down the block. The victim is a wealthy woman, the occupant of a penthouse in one of the apartment buildings. Whispers from clambering reporters reveal that it seems she was smashed to death with a blunt object, bones crushed, after being brutally raped. Law enforcement crawls the street like ants.

The coroner is on the scene. They've wheeled what remains of the body onto a stretcher-- mostly covered, mercifully-- to wait for transportation outside the apartment building. It reeks of blood and faint decomposition. The body must be almost twenty-four hours old.

It's too bad if this is your normal route to work or school, or if this place is where you've wandered this morning. Try not to stop and stare.
