Had a nice weekend north. Saw a property I liked just minutes from Third Place Books. (Lake City Forest/Shoreline area.) 28,000 sq. ft, 3bdrm that isn't a dump, for barely under my price range. The land is a long wedge and I'm guessing there is no access to the upper portion, hence sub-divideable or not, it can't be done practically.

However, someone crafty could stick a totally self-contained cabin up there with a footpath and market it as a green corner in the middle of the city with a guest-house or writer's retreat. ;-) Other immediate problem is the garage/shop is more of a carport/closet. I'm thinking earth-berm workshop in the hill in front of hte house - invisible from the house, but accessible from the road.

No, it won't happen. The house will be gone by the time I'm ready to buy, and it's probably a bigger project than I want - I wasn't thinking new construction for the next place. But it's still fun to be excited about something.

In other news, MY house is painted (outside) and is not, apparently, orange. J wrinkled her nose with increasing enthusiasm for the first several days she dropped Joy off, which actually amused me. Remember that quit-deed? Nacho house! The other day the neighbor came over and told my roommate she likes the colour - it's restful and natural. WOOT.

And I came home at the end of this weekend to find the whole yard, front and back, de-thatched. There is a MOUNTAIN of dead stuff on the side - it feels fresher. Time to aerate, re-seed, and hope for some more spring rains.
