Gosh, all change at the Palace then. I was just about to start dinner and watch Dr Who.

What triggered all that then? Or is that all Secret Squirrel?

I keep all my own fic, as I suspect do a lot of others, but I'm really behind the Open Doors thing.

We aren't absolutely sure what triggered it. Obviously there has been a great deal of campaigning for the elections - some of it public and some of it behind closed doors. But we all thought that was that. Most people were really pleased that Matty and Atiya were elected. However, Board held an open (public) meeting in which they tried to reappoint to Board the person who came last in the election (out of six candidates) after they'd repeatedly said there were only two seats (the maths does my head in) and the person, who is still on Board till 15th December, voted in favour of this move. Needless to say, there was uproar. (The transcripts are a joy to behold.) They retreated to a closed session and then announced their mass resignation. Now you effectively know as much as anyone!!

I've just been playing a very quick game of catch up and now understand a bit more. There was a bit of chatter about voting for oneself, which is usually OK, but I don't know what the election rules are, so may not have been in this specific insistence ( ... )

It was Andrea Horbinski who came last in the elections and it was Andrea who voted to reappoint herself to a seat she and others had been claiming loudly was not available. If it had been, Alex Tischer would have got it under the election rules. So under those circumstances, voting for herself was not exactly morally acceptable!

Or legal then?

Presumably a seat is either vacant or it's not? And if it's vacant it should be filled by election? It sounds very much like a ruse to retain a member who had lost the confidence of the electorate. It might be galling but, as I'm sure Mr Portillo will tell you, you have to take that sort of thing on the chin.

On a slightly more frivolous note, this would make a great fic.

The legality is iffy - but the rules that allow it are not there to enable people to protect themselves! Maybe Mr Portillo wasn't thinking about chinless wonders?

I'm pretty sure somebody will write the fic eventually!!

Well, presumably they can't all un-resign, so that's all (hopefully) academic.

I'll keep an eye on the OTW bulletins.

Are you sure no muse is calling to you?

You are, presumably, correct.

If any muse calls to me it will be redirected smartly. Not sure where to, but not here thank you. I'm too busy and by the time I have time this will all be history!

I think that this is a good thing. The transition was always going to be tricky, and with only 2 "new" faces on the Board there could have been a hostile environment for some time. This is actually better, although it's hard work for Matty and Atiya ( ... )

I think it has to be good. It has cleared the air, which was becoming toxic, and the new Board, however it's composed, should be acting with much greater transparency which has been a big part of the problem. That, plus, I think, a lack of real experience of other Board work on the part of the group that ended up with the power ( ... )
