Absent friends (and communities)

Forget about the debate about the aesthetics or general functionality of the new profile page. Or the new update page. Or the friends pages. This is a bigger/stranger worry.

I needed to check something in a comm that was only formed during 2012 (ruby_story_swap) and went, as usual, to my profile to click on them. I had the new profile page open and the comm was not there. I switched back to the old version and hey presto, the comm was there. I scrolled back on my friends' page to an entry to the comm and yes, I was shown as a member. So I started further investigations. None of my friends made since January 2012 show up on my new profile page. None of the comms I have started watching in the last 12 months are showing.

For anyone who is constantly active in just one or two comms and with a short f'list, this bug won't be immediately obvious as they will access things via their friends' page. But with a big f'list, it means an awful lot of scrolling, and even then if someone hasn't posted for ages there's no way of checking their journal. OK, you can search, but the search function isn't always easy and it isn't forgiving if you mis-spell a name or put and underscore in the wrong place.

Has anyone else noticed this problem? Has anyone time to check? I've left a comment to the post from LJ about the beta version of the new page but with the number of comments they're getting (mostly very repetitive, however much you might agree with them) I'm not hopeful.

Oh - and the new update page seems to have decided to ignore formatting and posts in long paragraphs regardless of how I lay things out.

I've made this post public instead of my default friends-only, so that if you come across anyone else you can link us.
