Sharp glass was.
That's right folks, story time.
So as you know I stepped on something on Thursday. So basically I limped around with it in my foot because I couldn't see anything sticking out so I assumed it was just a cut. Three performances of Electra and hours of stinging unimaginable pain later, I figured out something was still in there, something terrible, something that needed to be removed.
So in order to survive I'd been limping around using Dr. Scholl's corn cushions to ease the pressure on the area when I stepped, and though it helped, it was certainly no remedy. So yesterday I went to my Adler panel evaluation (which went alright, despite me not yelling at them) and walked (I'm an idiot) to the walk-in clinic. The doctor took one look at my foot and sais, "yep there's definitely something in there, let me get some Novocaine." So this is when I freaked out. I knew I would have to be numbed to get this motherfucker out, but Novocaine is injected by ----EEK----NEEDLES!!!! And my fear was very rational. It was a gigantic needle. The doctor goes, "This will sting a lot. Bear with me." And jams the needle into the bottom of my foot.
Ow.
The pain of that shot is undescribable. And I actually have a pretty higher than average pain tolerance. I didn't cry or anything (as I didn't cry when I broke my toe) but I took it silently like a man for the first, oh 5 seconds. Then I couldn't hold it back. I just bellowed, "AAAAAAAAAUGH! THAT IS PAINFUL!!!!" And the doctor kept apologizing and the pain kept throbbing along for another year it seemed, but it was probably 15 seconds total. Then the whole area was blissfully, blissfully numb. My life instantly gets better, then gets disturbing. I feel her cut open my skin and start digging out the glass. Now of course it didn't hurt, but I wasn't so out of it as to not understand she had opened my foot. This intensely odd picking sensation then happens, as she seems to be tweezing it out (I didn't watch as I was face down on the table thing). This picking sensation happened for almost a minute--guess the glass became pretty attatched to my skin over 4.5 days. Then she wipes all the blood off and disposes the needle. I exclaim, "IS IT OUT?!" and she says yes and puts a bandaid on my foot. I walk out of the office triumphantly....still limping because my foot was numb.
I can't say it's entirely better now that the glass is out. Now the pain is from her incision and from the absence of the glass. There is also the chance that more glass is inside and if it still hurts on Thursday I have to get an x-ray. I know that the area is very, very small where all this happened but it feels like there is a gaping hole inside my foot that has to be resealed. What a strange experience.
However, I DID walk to Blockbuster today without much pain. It's a little sore now though. Anyways, my life is crazy and I had glass in my foot for several days.....cool story huh?
