This morning I had periodontal surgery. In simpler and more descriptive terms, I had a gum graft. I should probably point out that I've never had any kind of dental work done before, other than your typical cleanings and x-rays. In fact, I've never had so much as a cavity. I should also probably point out that I have a fairly low tolerance for pain. However, my dentist has been warning me for the past 3 years that I would probably need a gum graft. Today was the day.

I knew I was in trouble when the hygienist gave me a prescription for vicodan, antibiotics, and an antimicrobial mouth rinse while I was still comfortably numb. My husband only got a heavy-duty tylenol prescription for both his extractions and his root canal.

The day is a blur. My mouth hurts. That's pretty much all I can articulate at the moment. The vicodan takes the edge off of the pain, for which I am extremely grateful, but nothing dulls it entirely. I'd love to mainline a pitcher of frozen margaritas, but I'm scared about combining the tequila with the vicodan. Give me another hour and I probably won't give a shit.
