I’d like to start by saying that I hate Mondays. Let’s get the negative crap out of the way first and then begin the delightful reminiscing on (most of) the weekend.

Friday night was loverly. I left work at 4pm and ran home to pick up the salsa that I had forgotten to take to work. I surprised my husband and got a nice surprise in return: he had moved my piano in during the day while I was at work. So I got to play a bit before I headed over to qnotku’s. The evening was nice. I didn’t drink too much, thanks to JM sharing her wine with me. Even made it home by 11:30pm. We started watching Elizabethtown but didn’t finish it.

Saturday was beautiful. Highs in the low 80’s and sunny, blue skies. It was the kind of day you want to spend outside. As it turned out, I spent the day hauling from thrift shop to thrift shop with the Teen. It was a huge success as we were able to find a lot of cute things that were inexpensive. Then we picked up the family and hit Target for some back-to-school items. I need more money. LOL.

Saturday night we watched Elizabethtown. I have to say that I really enjoyed it. There were parts that were kind of weak and the premise was highly improbable. But it was oddly touching in places. I think that they did a good job of showing the process of grief and loss and how different people deal with it differently. I loved Susan Sarandon's character. And the family in Indiana was adorable. There were plot threads that were resolved a little too neatly and, as I already mentioned, some seriously improbably occurrences. But overall I found it charming. And anyone who has dated long-distance will find themselves with reminiscent smiles during certain sections of the film.

Since we absolutely cannot have a Sunday that is anything but eventful, apparently, the upstairs toilet overflowed last night in the kids’ bathroom. My son started screaming immediately and the Male managed to do damage control. BUT…the water started leaking through the ceiling and into the kitchen. YUCK. And DOUBLE YUCK. Fortunately, only tiny drips that were easily caught. What this means, of course, is that once this current set of contractors are finished doing their job, we have to hire our own contractors to fix the upstairs bathroom and the kitchen ceiling. Lovely. Just lovely.

The general contractor came this morning and showed the Male which things would need to be emptied for the Big Move. He said they will replace all of the basement ceiling and will need to mud all of the joints when they do. But he’s not sure that USAA will pay to repaint the walls, since there isn’t any damage to the walls. He took pictures and put in a request, based on the fact that they will be mudding the tops of said walls when they mud the joints. So we’re in a holding pattern until we hear back from USAA.

The floor guy called and said we can come pick out carpet and tiles whenever we want. We’re going to try to schedule an appointment at their store for tomorrow or Wednesday. Both guys seemed to think everything (except the hardwood floors) would be done in the next two weeks. Hallelujah.
