Well, most likely one of the best Christmas Eve's ever. Last year with the fam and absolutely no fighting and lots of laughing probably takes the cake, but the London pub scene wasn't half bad. Met Lizzie's friends and had loads of people to "chat shit" about her craziness with. Good kids, real good kids.
Then of course we missed the last bus so we called a cab and ended up taking a "kebab cab"/dodgy not licensed cab to her friend jess's house and then walking as fast as I've ever walked back to Lizzie's. Totally nuts this girl but honestly I forgot how much I loved her. She even opened the doors between our rooms because she thought we should be in the same room since we spent the whole year together at oxy last year...such good fuckin' times.
I spend like ten minutes explaining how I have hardly been super homesick except for a few days when it really gets me down and then, the internet, my blessing and my curse, gets me down a little. It's like the emails from all you keep me going and happy to know what's going on but then I see pictures, actual faces and smiles and I can hear laughs and jokes and I wish I could have been there for that one night when...blah blah happened and so and so was so wasted the s/he did...whatever. Not big life moments but the little things that make it so hard to leave for so long.
Then again, my vacation has been brillant. Sooo good to see Lili in paris and then head to Geneva and even Italy for the day! Her family makes me laugh and we eat good food and see good art and generally have a ball. (p.s. Lizzie has challenged me to use British slang until Lauren gets here because she says she can't notice when I say something funny like bloody because how is she to know that we don't use that in Amurica, so hence the strange wording at times.)
Speaking of that fair country, American football was on tv at the pub tonight and for some reason everytime I see something like that I get this odd patriotic feeling. I think it's good that I'm proud of being American, but I can also take the piss out of Bush for his foreign policy or discuss/critisize American customs and/or culture. Any thoughts from those of you who've spent extended amounts of time outside the US of A??
Happy Christmas!
