The best lie is a slight perversion of the truth.
It occurred to me yesterday that I'm woefully boring and constantly lack something interesting to add to conversation. I'm upset about this and need to figure out how to become interesting before I'll be able to make any friends.
And a third, bonus thought: The people here are extremely stand-offish. I'm my usual courteous self, and people keep a distance like everyone is out to stab them. I know it's not me, I made a lot of friends in GA being myself. So why are the people in the North so untrusting, close-hearted, and self-absorbed?
Note: I say self-absorbed, because it also seems to me that people are only interested in being friends with the people who can give them some kind of benefit (or are socially "higher" than they are), be it social status, party connections, or whatever it is they want.
